Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi I’m introducing myself to the forum. I’m Sarah, 45 years old, and I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 25 years. I’ve had many pumps over the years and just started on a tandem t slim. Hoping to have some good discussions !!

Welcome to the forum @GingerJ, good to have you hear and looking forward to drawing on your experience.

I only heard of the t-slim last weekend, and I am interested in hearing more about it. I am up for my next pump in Feb 2020, and doing a bit of research. Does the t-slim
- allow remote bolusing via Bluetooth from handset to pump?
- allow you to enter a BG value into the Bolus calculator manually (such as from Libre reading)?
- how often do you need to change the insulin cartridge?
What made you change to the t-slim and what were you using before?

So many questions. I hope you don’t mind.

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum. the t-slim is relatively new, how are you finding it so far compared to other pumps you’ve had?

Hi!
The slim doesn’t have a Bluetooth handset, which is one of the drawbacks. I was previously on Roche insight and really like it but I heard that Roche are planning to stop making it soon so I thought I should change.
A plus is you can manually enter a blood glucose from a libre, which I couldn’t with the insight, so less blood tests for me!
Cartridge change is every 3 days, as most pumps. I haven’t done that yet- I only got it on Thursday. However, I really liked the cartridge change with the insight and this is more fiddly, but no more fiddly than Medtronic or omnipod ( I’ve had both of these in the past too!)
Another reason to change was that my dr suggested friasp insulin and you can only get cartridge of novorapid for insight.
Another benefit and reason I chose t slim is being able to link to Dexcom G6, which I am considering self funding. The functionality with it looks great, and it has a low suspend function too.
So overall, after 2 days I would say the benefits of t slim are
-small
-easy to use with touch screen ( try the app on you phone- there is a simulator which gives you an idea of how it works)
-Dexcom linkage
- manually enter blood glucose from libre
I hope I’ve answered all your questions?!

Thanks GingerJ
That is a really useful summary of the t-slim.

Hello Sarah aka @GingerJ, welcome to the forum.🙂 Sorry not familiar with pumps at the moment, unless you count pumping insulin by injection eight times a day.🙄
