Welcome Maddie. There are others in here when have become diabetic due to pancreatic cancer so they can address some of the specific things around that.
Being diagnosed with T1 is a big adjustment and a steep learning curve at the start, but it definitely does get easier. As you say there is a bit of planning to do for whatever we want to do, but that is our normal life now. I have become more organised as a result and much more aware of my food and drink consumption.
My main tip is to have stuff for hypos everywhere so you can’t get caught out. I choose to use jelly babies and have them in the car, in my bag(s), at Pilates, at weaving, .... just everywhere.
Have you been offered an education course such as Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE)? I found that excellent, not only for learning about carb counting and adjustments to doses for corrections and exercise, but also meeting other people with T1.
Finally I have also learnt most of what I know now from people on here. Ask whatever questions you have, and remember that no questions is considered silly on here.
