But not newly diagnosed.
Type 2 here and have been managing it via medication and exercise although i detest taking medications :(

Welcome to the forum
I'm sure you will find lots of tips and information here which will help you with managing your condition.
How long have you been diagnosed and what medications are you taking. You mention exercise but not diet as many find it is a combination of many things which are important in keeping blood glucose in a good place.
Is there anything which you need help with as people are very willing to offer words of wisdom based on their own experiences.
As everybody is different people do manage their condition in a variety of ways so you will see very varied approaches if you read around the forum.

Is there anything particular which brings you to the forum at this time, if you have been diagnosed quite a while? How well is the exercise and medication working and what exercise do you like to do?
Perhaps with some modification to your diet as well as the exercise you might be able to come off medication, if you hate taking it so much. Do you suffer side effects with it or is it just the idea of being reliant on medication for the rest of your life that you dislike.

If you can give us a bit more info about your HbA1c and the medication you currently take for diabetes and perhaps the sort of things you typically eat for breakfast, lunch and evening meal, then we could perhaps make suggestions where you could adjust things a bit which might lower your HbA1c to a level where you could come off medication. Diet is probably more powerful than any diabetes medication and there are instances of people coming off insulin which is the strongest medication and managing their diabetes through diet alone. It won't work for everyone, but if you are interested we can give you some tips.

Sorry to hear you aren’t liking the meds. Do you get side effects from them? Or is it just the need to take them that irks you? Which do you take? And have they changed over the years?

Medications well...

Metformin 500mg
Gliclazide 120mg
Jardine 25mg

I try to keep my diet in control but its quite hard to do this for ever but so far so good 🙂

Well i was told not to read everything about Diabetes on the internet as there are some horror stories out there. I have come across this forum before by never registered.

Excercise wise it is going well, walking is my main exercise. Usually walk about 45 minutes to an hour a day. Did do some cycling but the bike needs some work doing to it so thats one for the summer.

Hmmm with the way doctors are now they simply want to pile on more medication even though you try your hardest to make lifestyle changes and keep diabetes under control.
I only suffered side affects with the Rebelsus medication that was prescribed, this medication is more of an weight loss drug but helps with lowering sugar levels. It did work for me even though I didnt need to lose any more weight but the side effects i had were horrendous so that was stopped asap.

Medications that I currently take

Metformin 500mg (morning/evening)
Gliclazide 120mg
Jardine 25mg

Well hmmm HbA1c has been an issue with me as its been high over the last year but not sure the reason why. I was once told by a pharmacist friend to be strict on myself over the space of 3 months so the Hb1Ac will be low. Either the medication / exercise etc isnt working but this is something i need to speak to the Dr about in a few weeks time when i have my 3 monthly blood test

Breakfast

Black coffee or black tea
Banana or apple which ever is available

Lunch
As i am working from home, most of the days i have a mixed leaf salad which i get from Aldi or Tesco, maybe a packet of crisp but hardly and water ( i drink about 2 litres a day of water)

Evening

This varies but consists of rice, curries etc but in moderate proportions.

Only had side effects from one of the medications that I was prescribed which was Rebelsus, not taking that one anymore as 1. i dont need to lose any more weight and 2. Side affects were horrible !

This is what I currently take

Metformin 500mg (morning/evening)
Gliclazide 120mg
Jardine 25mg

Gliclazide 120mg is the most recent one but that is due to my HbA1c not being low as it should be !
 
@BathingApe I'm afraid that the apple, banana, crisps and rice are all contributing to higher glucose levels if you are having them on a daily basis.

With the medication you are on you might need to have more carbs throughout the day to prevent going very low glucose, but I'd really advise going for lower carb options and more bulk than the foods you are choosing at present.
I manage to keep a fairly low HbA1c, but my breakfast today was sausages and bacon. I'd have had eggs as well but wasn't all that hungry.
I find that the frozen stir fry from Lidl, also the frozen mixed veges (the one without sweetcorn) and mixed berries are staples in my diet, along with Greek style full fat yoghurt, plus things such as mushrooms, eggs, and all sorts of meat and fish - oh and cheeses. It is a great diet, and I can get by without medication - plus I am still changing shape and getting stronger, in recovery from the advice to eat carbs which I had for so long.

no no not having those foods on a daily basis :( id be stupid if i did.
Ive always like a bit of fruit rather than a mug of tea and toast in the morning
Mornings can also be just black tea/coffee and nothing till lunch time.

Do you have a blood glucose monitor so you could check out the effect of your meals, you should have as you are taking gliclazide which has the potential to cause low blood glucose which could happen if you take it when you don't have a meal with some carb.
The reason people tent to have something for breakfast is that by eating you stop the liver trying to be super helpful and releasing glucose but it will stop you feeling hungry and snacking before lunch on high carb food.
Many find that full fat Greek yoghurt with some berries for breakfast is filling and low carb.
It doesn't look as if you are having much protein if you are just having salad for lunch so you could add some cooked meat, eggs, cheese, tuna with some mayo.
