Hi newbie here but not sadly to diabetes . Recently had to stop Metformin due to severe reaction all of a sudden and now on insulin . D Nurse has been tweaking my dose but I am still see high BS levels morning and evening a month in . Hardly eating any carbs - just a small potato or some rice with my evening meal . Getting very anxious and upset . Any advice ? Thanks

It might be helpful if you say what insulin you are taking and when and what blood glucose levels you are getting. Some examples of the meals you have would also help.
I assume that when you were taking metformin you were following a low carb diet and that was working for you.
What was your latest HbA1C result that has led to the change to insulin rather than other oral medication or have they been tried and they have not worked.
If you are still getting high blood glucose levels then it may be that the insulin dose is not able to cope with that carbs you are having.
Sometimes people are started on a conservative insulin dose to be safe and it may need to be increased. You nurse may need to be doing a bit more tweaking.

Sorry to hear your levels are being a bit stubborn, and not coming down despite your tweaked insulin doses.

There was another new member having a very similar experience earlier this week, so you aren’t alone in facing this frustration :(

Insulin doses are usually started at a fairly conservative level, and then gradually altered (titrated) to meet your needs. Partly this is for safety and the avoidance of potential hypoglycaemia (you should have been told to always carry hypo treatments with you eg glucose tablets). Additionally if your BG levels had been creeping up for some time before you were offered insulin, then bringing them down slowly and gently can be much easier on the fine blood vessels in the eyes and nerve endings.

Do you know of it‘s a long-acting or mixed insulin that you have been given?
