Hi
Diagnosed T2 late last year, previous to being diagnosed have been suffering underarm folliculitis which have found out is likely due to having diabetes, despite several lots of antibiotics has not cleared, the burning sensation is really getting me down, any ideas how to help stop it burning? spoke to gp again yesterday and sent pics but gp said its not bad enough to prescribe more antibiotics but if worsens to inform them

Hi and welcome.

I find Germolene cream really excellent at healing up things like that and it has a mild anaesthetic in it I believe to help sooth as well as fight the infection. I find that it halps to rub it in quite firmly to stimulate blood flow, even if it is sore because the blood will help to remove the puss and fight the infection.
It will be really important to get your Blood Glucose levels under control though because yeast and bacterial infections thrive in high sugar conditions, so unless you get your levels down, it will just flare back up again... as well as putting other parts of your body at risk or damage.

Do you know what your HbA1c was at diagnosis? This is the blood test used to diagnose and track your progress with diabetes management and will usually be a number in excess of 47 but can be up into 3 figures if things are significantly out of kilter with your levels.

Have you been given and medication and if so what?

Have you been given any dietary/lifestyle advice and if so what and how are you managing with it?

Do you have much/any weight to lose?

Sorry for all the questions but diabetes can be quite individual so it helps to know a bit more about your particular circumstances.

I would like to add that my levels were very high at diagnosis and I was battling thrush infections as a result. Since I changed my diet and got my levels under control, there have been enormous improvements in lots of aspects of my health including much less joint pain, no more migraines, and no more thrush. I feel younger fitter and healthier than I have for years and it has been well worth the effort. In fact, if I hadn't been diagnosed with diabetes, I wouldn't have made those changes, so to me I am now healthier than I was before I developed diabetes and fully intend to live longer with a better quality of life, so there have certainly been positives to come from it, even if it is a bit of a pain in the backside.

thank you thats so helpful, my hbac1 level was 63 when diagnosed, recent three month review it was down to 45, i have managed to lose 10kg still got lot more to lose, not on any medication but still got high blood pressure so will shortly be started 2.5mg of ramipril

Sounds like you are doing great judging by those results. Well done! Hope Germolene works as well for you as it does for me. A tube lasts me about 5 years and if I feel a spot or infected hair follicle developing, particularly areas like that that I shave, it is usually gone in a couple of days and before it even breaks the surface of my skin, with the help of a few applications of Germolene.

You could try a Tea tree oil shower gel as that has good antibacterial properties.
You could ask the GP for some hydrocortisone/fusidic acid cream as that is also very good.

Welcome to the forum @ahm

Congratulations on your amazing weight loss, and terrific reduction in your HbA1c. Well done!
