Morning all.

Symptoms started at Xmas, GP last week, bloods Thursday, diagnosed Friday (yesterday). Spent the morning in the clinic and issues with a pile of goodies.
I was at 25-30 yesterday and this morning 20. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed!
I look forward to picking up advice from you lot!

Hiya - welcome to the club no-one wanted to join!

It seems you've already got used to finger pricking and believe it or not - we all get used to everything else - but this is a marathon not a sprint - so it absolutely takes time, some things longer than others but just start as you mean to go on and learn to live comfortable with your diabetes and don't let it get control of you.

To put it in context, 45+ years later and I'm still learning and because of the constant research and discoveries about how our bodies really work - nobody can ever 'know everything' so it's always an ongoing journey.

No silly questions ever then because if you don't understand something, ask, ask, ask because someone will most likely be able to explain it for you.

What 'regime' have they started you on - types of insulin, etc?

Hi Micah and welcome to the forum.
No surprise that you are a bit on the high side at present.
It will take time to bring your levels down.

Tell us more about your insulin regime.
Have you been referred to soecialists at the hospital or being edalt with at your Gp Practice?

As TW says no question on here is silly, just ask. There are plenty of people on here to help you.

It must be a huge shock for you and not surprising you are feeling overwhelmed. I remember the early days and also felt the same.
Do ask any question here and just take each day on its own and it will get easier. Your numbers will come down but best to do it slowly.

Hi Jenny

Thanks for the warm welcome. Currently pumping 8 units of NovoRapid 3-4 times per day and 10 units of Lantus last thing at night. Blood sugar is running between 12.4-26

I know it will take a bit of time. Support from the diabetes clinic has been immense. The head nurse and I have been texting all over the weekend. Couldn’t ask for more support

Hi

I’m under the diabetes clinic in Rugby. The support over the weekend has been fantastic.

Yay!!! - I LOVE the diabetes centre at St Cross and all it's contents from the receptionist (my namesake, Jenny) all the way upwards inclusively!

I nominally also see Kim but in fact I like Kirpal and oh gosh - the blonde nurse whose name escapes me, silly old bat that I am - just as well. The are consistently all as helpful and user-friendly as each other.

I'm still more than slightly in love with 'Dr S' too (as the first consultant I'd seen for 10 years who treated me as a whole person instead of a collection of symptoms) though I see 'Dr G' these days cos I'm pretty easy (having been sorted out by Dr S and the DSNs previously LOL) and was swapped to him when he was newly arrived there!

I was 'under' UHCW formerly and it was a nightmare frankly - never saw the same face twice - but Rugby - oh the relief!

Welcome Micah, from a T2.

Welcome 🙂 Its 52yrs of sticking pins into myself this June. Keep going & look after yourself 🙂
