Hi everyone, my name is Greg and I'm 46, my mmol was 76 before xmas and has recently been 95,i'm struggling because there's not a lot of food that i eat apart from carbs. Where i work i dont have time to make a meal or put something in microwave so i rely on sandwiches and crisps and chocolate to get through the day. If anyone could give me alternatives id be grateful.

Hi Greg
Welcome to the forum, I sure you will find lots of ideas from people as to how they manage their diabetes. I'm afraid the increase in your HbA1C is not good news as it really puts you at greater risk of diabetic complications. But by seriously looking at your diet for the whole day, you should be able to improve things.
Certainly the combination of sandwich, crisps and chocolate is not a good choice. You might get away with the sandwich but have some salad or nuts instead of crisps and some full fat Greek yoghurt instead of the chocolate, or take a big mixed salad with cheese or cooked meat and coleslaw.
Have a look at the thread What did you eat Yesterday for ideas that Type 2 folk have for meals.
I'm sure a few other people will be along with some links to help.

Hi Greg,

It's tricky trying to manage your time and eating right but although work is hectic, your health is more important as poor health can impact your ability to work.

As above, things like salads, well filled wraps, sandwiches on low carb bread, popcorn, egg muffins, rice crackers, rye bread, quiche and jelly are all decent alternatives.

We have many recipes on our mains site that may help with some ideas too.

Sorry to hear that your results have been rising, and that you are struggling to find suitable things to eat :(

It certainly looks like your metabolism is struggling with the level of carbs you are currently eating.

Can you find time to make a wrap the night before? A wrap is often 20g of carbs, so filling that with a tasty satisfying filling may be almost half the carbs of a regular sandwich. Alternatively you could make a sandwich with low carb bread like Bergen Soya and Linseed, which can reduce the carb load in your lunch.

Good luck finding the right swaps and tweaks for you 🙂

Hi @greg75 Do you have a fridge at work? If not, you could use a chilled lunch bag and take a salad with plenty of protein and maybe a moderate amount of carbs eg a slice of rye bread, lower carb crackers, etc. You’ll find it surprisingly filling if you get the balance right.

Hello and welcome. 🙂
