Type 2
Hi,

I'm newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (just over 3 weeks ago).

My practice has sent a referral to the Specialist Diabetic Nurse/Community Team, but they have refused to see me, as they my diabetes isn't out of control enough, is this normal, has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Yvette, welcome to the forum 🙂 Unfortunately there seems to be a huge variation in how people are treated at diagnosis, it would seem that you are victim of a poor response. :( Do you have any test results? I would recommend having a read of our Useful links thread so that you can get a better idea of what it all entails. We are here to answer any questions you may have, so please ask away 🙂

Yvette hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Welcome Bellydanceryvette (great name - guess that explains how you keep fit?)

I'm unclear how anyone can say whether anyone's type 2 diabetes is under control or out of control just 3 weeks after diagnosis. However, some GPs and practice nurses can and do manage type 2 diabetes in their patients adequately. On these boards, we tend to hear more about problems with care than when it goes right.

So, try to gain as much knowledge as possible, and if your and GP's / practice nurse's methods (medication, advice, teaching techniques for self care etc) are not enough, then ask for a referral in the future.

Welcome to the forum Yvette 🙂
