Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Hello, recently diagnosed as prediabetic following gestational diabetes 4 years ago. My fasting glucose result was 6.9 but was told by my GP that they will refer me to a prediabetic clinic rather than retest. So I invested in a glucose monitor and have checked my blood glucose levels first thing in the morning. Yesterday was 6.8 but it was 7.2 this morning after only eating veggies (on a low carb health kick). Don't want to panic or get carried away so any advice would be appreciated. Would you keep retesting or should I contact my GP?

Hi & welcome! There's absolutely nothing to worry about - your meter really isn't accurate enough for there to be any real difference between readings of 6.8 and 7.2, and even if it were completely accurate, everybody's blood glucose levels jiggle around day to day by that kind of amount.

As far as l know those readings are within the " normal" range for a non diabeic who has dawn phenominum which means the liver downloads a little more glucose than it should first thing in the morning.
What are they like for the rest of the day?
