10 am twix (never had before)
lunch 2 filled rolls (had to add biscuit or crisps to top up now)
3;30 biscuit etc to top up never had before
5;30 evening meal as normal
bedtime now need something to top up

any help would be great

Hi hizzi. Welcome 🙂

I'm no T2 expert, but I would say you don't need that amount of gliclazide. I'm surprised you're not on metformin as a first line of attack.🙂

I would get back to your doctor and ask them to review your meds and dietary needs pronto.

Hi, when are you measuring, before meals, 1 hour and 2 hour or just in the morning?
It strikes me that you are eating far too many fast acting carbs, 4 Wheetabix😱 Twix😱(white biscuit, chocolate and caramel!)
Whats the evening meal?
I suggest you go and review your meds with your GP (maybe drop back to 40mg) and ask to see a dietician. It could be that you are going high with what you eat and then dropping down too low.

thanks guys the extra weetabix and midmorning twix etc is me trying to compensate , i reckon a lesser dose of glicazide and cut out the crap again is the solution but the nurse i saw the other day dismissed it in the 3 weeks i have been diagnosed i have had 3 different opinions and its getting me a bit miffed, hence coming here for some help, my father is type 2 on metformin but he is the last person to ask about what to eat😱
i cant take metformin as i have poor kidney function

i was asked to test twice a day alternating breakfast/tea and lunch/supperhis b
i have been testing four times and plus 2hrs plus anytime i felt odd, generally getting results before meals of 5.5-7 with the highest plus 2hr reading around 9, now i am down at 3.8 /4 ish before meals, i started simvistatin last week also could this be whats affecting things

Hi hizzi.

I don't think simvastatin has any effect on BGs.

The 3.8/4 is a bit on the low side but is still just about within normal range, as long as you're not dropping lower. If that's only acheivable with your extra carbs, then it probably is time to review your meds, and, as vicsetter suggests, the type of carbs you're eating.

Weetabix is notorious for spiking in a lot of people. Muesli or porridge are generally better options and as I'm sure you know, the rolls are better if seeded or wholegrain.🙂

Welcome to the forums hizzi 🙂

It does sound like you are eating to suit your medication.

Hi hizzi, the simvastatin is the usual stock cholesterol drug and won't affect BG levels. From what you say you should definitely go to your GP and get him to review your meds and as you say you are basically eating the wrong things but I can understand why. As Mark says you shouldn't be feeding your meds, if you carry on doing that you will put on weight.
You could do with some of Northener's links for newly diagnosed. I use a general rule - avoid anything made from white flour and that includes wheat (hence no weetabix). Get yourself a carb counting bible (collins from amazon) and read the food labels to see how many carbs and how much sugar. If you want a biscuit try a cracker with butter, the fat slows the carbs down.
There is still a lot of NHS advice that says you should eat a high carb low fat diet.

Hi Hizzi, welcome to the forum I agree with the others, it seems you are taking medication that you don't need, so I would get it reviewed with your doctor. I'd also suggest having a look at our 'Useful Links' thread - particularly recommended by our Type 2 members is the book by Gretchen Becker, plus Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, there's almost certainly someone who has wondered the same thing and more than likely someone who can share their experience! 🙂

Hi Hizzi a belated welcome to the forum from me.
