Hello all.
My name is Lottie, im 25 and my partner has type 1 diabetes he is 24.
Before meeting him i only knew the basics of what actually living with diabetes involved and through a lot of self research and study i am trying to understand and support him. Sadly he was diagnosed at the age of 19 and went directly into denial. He has since fallen into a coma, had a heart attack and now suffering from neuropathy. Before we got together he had sort of given up on life and not taking care of himself which i have slowly started to improve. After 2 years absence we got back in contact with his diabetic nurse, and i am hoping to enroll us in a carb counting course so that i can cook better meals for him.
I dont know any other "partners of diabetics" so i hope i will find an ear on here, as being strong for him can be hard at times. Especially the famous "i dont want to be diabetic anymore" pleas when he's low.
All in all i am postive that now he feels he has support things will improve, and hopefully you might be able to steer me in the correct direction with day to day queries and hick ups.
Tot hose running this forum, thankyou. Your stories and openness has done me a world of good already.
