Hi there your in the right place, even if not diagnosed yet and whether she is or not its good you have took the step to become a member or here early on, theres a good group of parents on here with diabetic children who will be more then willing to help you where they can, anything you need to know ask xX Good luck.

P.s have a good browse around the parents section.

p.p.s hoping you dont have to become permanent member if you get what i mean x

Welcome to the forum Abi. I'm really sorry to hear about your daughter.

There are plenty of parents around on the forum and they will be able to answer most of any questions you have.

Firstly, though, my first wish is that your daughter is fine and you can wave us goodbye! 🙂

Andy

thank you yes i understand what you mean..i feel bad actully the only reason i took her to the dr's in the first place was down to constant moaning about being thristy and being hungry ,i can buy her a drink and its gone with in a matter of seconds its been getting much worse and she is hungry all the time..i took her to try and stop her moaning i thought the dr was going to tell me there is nothing wrong with her and it was in her head. the way she discribed it to the dr was "my tummy isnt working properly"

part of me is hapy i went part of me feels bad for tellig her to stop moaning all the time ,they did a urnie test wich they didnt get anything from wich is why she had to have blood taken, not nice to have to take her. dreding the results i'm not sure how much more i can deal with she hasnt stopped being ill since was very young and i'm getting tired with constant test....sorry i am moaning again lol

Hi elijahfan, welcome to the forum 🙂 I do hope that your daughter does not get diagnosed with diabetes. With one so young, it would most likely be Type1, but let's hope it's something far less serious. You did absolutely the right thing taking her to the doctors - the sooner you find out what is wrong, the better! Try not to worry until you get the full diagnosis - I know it will be difficult, but you may pass the worry on to her. Be careful about what sweet things she eats and drinks in the meantime, including drinks.

We have lots of very friendly, experienced parents here, so should the news be that she has diabetes you will get lots of good support here.

thank you 🙂

i try not to worry but it keeps going round in my head..sorry what is typ 1 ? i think she got it from her dad (we have no comunication) all tho i think its on my parents side i couldnt really trace it..i am keeping my fingers crossed she is having a growth spert or something normal (not saying she isnt normal if she doesnt)

i guess the key is to not worry till friday

Type 1 is when your own body attacks the insulin producing cells within the pancreas, meaning no insulin can ever be produced.........

Some say the worst kind, but I believe managed more easily

thank you 🙂

Sorry, Type 1 is the commonest form of diabetes in children and young people and means that the person no longer produces enough insulin to process energy from food. Because of this, it can build up in the blood and the body tries to get rid of it in the urine, making the person dehydrated and thirsty. If a person is diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes they have to inject insulin to make up for the lack of it in their own bodies. Although it sounds scary, the injections are done with tiny needles, and most of the time you don't feel a thing.

No-one knows what causes diabetes for sure, but there is some evidence that there might be a genetic link. No-one in my family has it except me though, so it's not always the case.

Stick with us and we'll try to answer your questions as best we can 🙂

thank you

yes that does sound scary but it would explain her drinking like a fish she can down a drink at a rate of knots an i know if the body is thristy it can make you think yo are hungry the only problme i do ahve is my duaghter wont drink water and prefers fruit shoots and lemonade i guess she is a typical child really and loves sweets and cakes..i ahve recnetly been giving her lots a fruit instead of sweets even that is prooving to be a chalenge oh wel each bridge as i come to it

Best to stick to 'diet' drinks if you can - sugary drinks will only make her feel worse if she does have diabetes. Milk can also raise blood sugars so be careful with that too. If she is diagnosed then she will be able to have these things, so it is not forever! And if she isn't diagnosed then she can also have them, so just for these few days you'll have to be a bit strict!

i'm pretty strict with her anyway but allways give in with drinks etc..i know its for her and i'm sure she will get ust to it in time

I hope it turns out that your daughter doesn't have diabetes. Did the doctor check a urine sample or a finger prick blood test?
Do you know when the results will be back?

dr did a urnie to begin with and it came back as normal so he needed to do a blood test as he needs a better test

Welcome elijahfan- so sorry to hear of your daughters problems, it's difficult and you feel guilty. Whatever the outcome you will get lots of help and support. My daughter is 9, she underwent tests 2 yrs ago, she was tired all the time, found out she had a low thyroid count, I was so worried waiting for the results, it's often the unknown that is more worrying, and now she has IBS,(we were told on friday) it's such a worry being a parent, isn't it? Is she going up to Junior School in September?
Take of your self and try to have a good week. with very best wishes to you and your daughter Sheena

thanks sheena she goes into year 3 in september..i might do her packed lunch so i can control whats she's eating

i will keep you all posted and try my best to relax..i ring up for results friday afternoon my fingers are crossed
