Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi type 2 for 20 years insulin and tablets. Abused myself in that time alcohol and portion size though generally healthy eating.
now paying the price with neuropathy and foot deformity poss Charcot’s but still being investigated. Hurt foot in December but was just put down to arthritis till I finally got face to face last week.
im finally trying to take things seriously, I know a bit late, also although I attend all appointments I have never been taught carb counting

Hi @Cliffuk and welcome to the forum 🙂 You won't be short of help on carb counting here, a lot of us have made it a full time occupation! I assume you have already reduced your intake of potatoes, pasta, bread and rice? A great thread to read is What did you have to eat last night. It's got loads of low carb ideas.

Sorry to hear about your neuropathy and potential Charcots. @Flower should be able to give you advice around that, hence the tag (hope that's ok @Flower)

Thx for reply Vonny. I will look at the what you ate last night thread.
im going to try to get my diabetes nurse to but me on curse ,desmonds I think it’s called.
yes all main carbs slashed or removed. Main meals now are fish or meat with salad or veg but no potatoes or rice

I did the MyDesmond course, it is on line I think at the moment. It is quite basic but a good start as there is a sequence of learning activities followed by booster sessions released one by one. There is a chat forum but as everybody has little experience of managing their diabetes this forum is much more helpful. You will find they do suggest low carb approach but also low fat more in line with the standard NHS than some newer thinking of low carb and higher fat so probably higher carb than a lot of people find success with here.

Thx for answering.
I will see if I can get a group course rather than online as the interaction will help with my learning, rather than online

Hope you manage to get on a face-to-face course @Cliffuk

Probably not the easiest time to try to access that unfortunately, with the restrictions, and with the healthcare system under so much strain, but hopefully these sorts of regular things will begin to start taking place again soon.

If you would like a good overview of T2 diabetes, to add to the knowledge you’ve already picked up, members here frequently recommend Maggie Davey’s Letter and Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year, which you can work through gradually and will give you a solid starting point

And keep asking questions here too. Lots of friendly, helpful members to bounce ideas off 🙂
