Newbie oldie

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum.
Can I ask what brought you here? Have you been recently diagnosed.
People here are helpful and supportive so ask any questions you have. Nothing is considered silly or trivial.

Welcome to the forum @BrianWallace

We have literally centuries of lived diabetes experience here, and lots of different people with different types of diabetes trying to find their way through the frustrations and fickleness of blood glucose management

Hi, was misdiagnosed with type 2 about 15 years ago but struggled with levels unless I starved myself and avoided carbs. Recently been rediagnosed with type 1.5 LADA. Tried trulicity but no effect and now on Novorapid before meals and it’s already a godsend as I can eat a normal meal

Welcome @BrianWallace from another LADA. I was diagnosed at age 53 and my consultant just refers to it as T1 as we are managed in exactly the same way. So pleased that you have now got an appropriate treatment with your insulin, and can now eat as you wish. Are you using a basal/background insulin too?

Loads of experience to tap into on here. Ask any questions that arise.

Hi SB2015,
No not at the moment. Reviewing in 4 weeks. I personally think I do need it to keep a reasonable base level. It’s been a struggle for a few years but light at end of the tunnel now imo I have had a fair bit of experience insulin etc with my youngest son who was diagnosed at age 6 with type 1 (24 yrs ago) so thankfully it’s not all new to me. Being able to keep levels low and eat is wonderful as I was losing muscle mass by not eating to keep level good. Not ideal situation for a hill walker lol

Hi @BrianWallace and welcome to the forum - I was also a late starter to my Diabetes journey although I was automatically told I was Type 1 - ask any questions you may have, we're all here to help

Hi MashedupMatt,
Thank you I’m not really new as was diagnosed with type 2 roughly 15 ish years ago. Only through stubborn willpower and little food could I get levels reasonable. Luckily I recently was assigned a new diabetic nurse who is type 1 herself. She is brilliant and can actually talk to her as she truly listens. She quickly recognised especially with my other autoimmune issues that I wasn’t type 2 but type 1.5 LADA as I was on max doses of tablet with no response along with if I forgot meds on an early start it didn’t affect my levels. Having had the warm welcome and offers of advice, I regret not joining here years ago

Brilliant that you have now got such a great healthcare team @BrianWallace (Shame it wasn't sooner!) - many people are misdiagnosed to start with (myself included, but luckily for me it was only for a few weeks) - and this forum is great as there is such a vast amount of experience here - glad you have found us
