Hi everyone
I was 1st diagnosed as pre-diabetic about 6 years ago & put on metformin as I also have RA so GP suggested it as I couldn't "exercise strenuously" Lost some weight & came off it about 18 months later
Now I've put that back on, but stayed OK until I have neck surgery & did way less for a few months at the end of last year. Diagnosed Type 2 around Xmas.
1st appt with Practice Nurse about this (already back on metformin) & she suggested the Remission Plan, thinking I'd say no as everyone else so far had. I thought it was a great idea - I'm a retired doctor (Paediatrics & GP trained) so I'd read the evidence & knew I haven't the energy or will power to spend months trying to keep to the Fast 800 diet on my own (I'd tried but always scuppered by social events + loss of will to keep going...)
Started 2 days ago, so will see how it goes!

Good luck with this. I suspect you'll still need willpower just to stay on this course!

Chart your progress on this forum!!! - and get encouragement from the folk on here that have already beaten their own T2 into submission either with the help of shakes and/or low carbing with 'real food'.

Welcome to the forum @Bessie

You might like to join the conversation with others aiming for remission (and some who have had success with the Oviva approach) in the forum’s remission section

Good luck, and let us know how things go 🙂

Thread unlocked as requested @Bessie :D

I got this unlocked so I could finally update it:
Still on the Oviva pathway currently on week 49!
I lost 15.8kg during the first 12 weeks, then despite a couple of blips (& a 4 week TDR reset starting wk 34 - after stopping being careful enough including with drinking out/going on holiday & putting 3kg back on) I got back on track and am now in the normal BMI range, with a total loss so far of 26kg - a total of just over 4 stone ...
As I'm only 154cm tall - 5ft 1 5" (the half makes all the difference) that's a huge change.... it's 30% of my original starting weight!

I'd still like to lose a further 4kg, as I have RA & that means my recommended upper BMI is 23 rather than 25, but I'm confident I can get there soon after the end of the year.

I think the whole process has had a massive effect on my eating behaviour - & taste buds...I really don't like chips or fatty food at all now (apart from small amounts of strong cheese!)

Yes, the TDR is boring (& yes, the Altralife soups are both terrible, and so much more difficult to mix than the shakes) but once you get used to them, it's actually much easier than trying to calorie count or follow any other diet..... you can measure out the powder for a shake & take it with you in a small tub, ready to add to cold water just before drinking which makes going out easy. And I found it easier explaining that I couldn't have anything to eat when out than trying to fit in with what was available.

I managed 2 events in the first 12 weeks (with consultation via Chat with my online support) - a family wedding where I missed out the cream tea completely then had the hog roast without roll, stuffing or crackling, 2 small new potatoes & lots of green salad (instead of 2 of the days shakes). I did similarly for a Uni reunion.

Hope the rest of you are getting on OK!

Hi @Bessie. You are tremendous example of those who have that other D, Determination. Figuring out a plan is not difficult, the tricky bit is finding a plan that suits you and then having the determination to stick to it.

Absolutely brilliant in my book!!!

Thank you! It's taken me until I got to 58, but putting on an extra stone after neck surgery tipped me into diabetes & when our Practice Nurse suggested the Remission Plan with TDR I thought I'd nothing to lose.... it's basically Fast 800 without cheating or having to calculate/weigh everything. And the TDR definitely helps reset tastebuds as well as habits...

The initial support is great, though it does die off somewhat once you're past the first 4 months & I had to push (emailing) Oviva to get the extra 4 weeks of TDR when I put on weight (the person in the chat said I wasn't eligible which was incorrect)

Some great recipes on the app too
