Hi All, I've been reading some of the welcoming comments and all seems really helpful. Thanks
Here is my story so far...
I'm a newbie to this and it all began when the nurse on a regular blood test called me to have a chat after a general recent blood test, as I take Thyroxine.

On seeing the nurse, she informed me that my count was 68!! When she said the limits are 20-41 and my cholesterol was 6.8!

I was somewhat shocked, disappointed and concerned as I am only 5ft and on the overweight size too.

So I've had to cut down on food and reduce carbs and sugar. I've been doing this and have lost 2 st 8lb to Monday. It's not been easy, as like most people, like Pasta, potatoes, bread(as my husband makes a mean sourdough).

I've been using an app nutracheck, and using 100 carbs grams and 30 grams sugar. Some days it's very hard.

I started to take Metformin and now on the full 4 tablets 500mg per/tablet, also a Atrovastatin 20mg daily too.

I've had the usual tummy issues, as it said in the medication paperwork, with jippy tummy, which recently has been really bad. several times a day. It starts with a real bad pain on my tummy, then I NEED to go straight away, as I don't know what would happen!! :(

I have been having leg or foot cramps and very hot sweats, even out of the really warm weather we've been having. I'm at an age where this has been happening for several years, but recently it's almost unbearable, and I'm having real trouble sleeping between 1am - 3am, that's when it usually happens. Sometimes, I have to visit the Loo too.

I've also recently been having very dizzy spells during the day, which I can't seems to pin point why, they just come before or after food, many hours or just a little while after food too?

Anyway, so for all of that, but I guess it's better the more you know LOL

I was 68 on the scale and last week had my first 3 monthly blood test and my result was 41!! I was pleased as it's borderline! I hope it still reduces.

Basically any help or advice would be welcomed. Hope I've not bored anyone on my first post. 🙂

You have done brilliantly with your weight and the reduction to your HBA1C - well done.

I have had the 'explosive' toilet issues too with Metformin - I just switched over to Sukkarto which is the slow release version so I am starting to build up the dosage on that now - doc says 1 additional tablet every 2 weeks up until I am on 4 again. It's been so much better for me!

I am just quite new to this too so can't offer any advice on the dizzy spells - could it be that your body is just adjusting to the reduced amount of sugar in your body and your new weight? I am sure someone with a lot more experience will come along and offer their wise words.

Well done again!

Thanks @Molly M Thanks for your kind words. It helps a lot. You've done really well also.
Will keep up the hard work.
I'm hoping someone can provide some more advice too. You are probably right with loosing weight etc, It may have caused some of this.
Many thanks again.

Well done @SueW_sandrat ! Great effort. Can't help you with your medicine query but there are bound to be people along soon to help you.

An HbA1C of 41mmol/mol is now in the non diabetic range being below 42 but to be expecting of even aiming at as low as 20mmol/mol seems unrealistic and most of the people on here are not much below mid thirties. Your various symptoms may be the result of quite rapid drop in blood glucose and is the body getting used to lower levels.
Well done on your achievement.

Hi SueW_sandrat, welcome to the forum.

You've done incredibly well and have got the results to prove it, well done! Unfortunately, tummy issues are normal and tend to settle down after a while.

Re feeling dizzy, sometimes, when you lower your blood sugar in a short space of time it can lead to you feeling unwell. This should only last for a short period so I'd consult a doctor if it persists.

We're here to help so feel free to share your journey and let us know if we can assist in any way.
