Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi ... I was diagnosed yesterday type 2. My HbAIc level was 64.. family history maternal mother and grandmother both type 2. Just started on Metformin initially 1 500mg per day then after one week twice daily.
I'm the wrong side of 50 and also have health issues Hypertension, POTS, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
I had surgery shoulder decompression rotator cuff repair, and was very unwell after which is when the Diabetes was discovered I had two HbAIc tests to confirm.
More bloods Monday to check thyrThy B12 Creatinine Iron and Seratonin levels and two hour appointment with Diabetes nurse Fiona..... It's all very scary! I hope you learn a lot on along this new journey.... Thanks Paula xx

Welcome and congrats, you've found a good place for info. Keep reading the forums and asking questions. It's not too bad as you can control it. You're in the right place for answers. 🙂

Hi Paula, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but the good news is that there is a lot to be positive about, so don't lose heart 🙂 It's a serious condition, but it is manageable with the right knowledge and application. Many people find that the adjustments they make to bring their blood sugars under good control result in them feeling happier and healthier than they have for some time leading up to the diagnosis.

There's a lot to take in at first, but I would suggest starting by reading Maggie Davey's letter, which sholud get you started on the right track 🙂 I'd also highly recommend getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker which has helped a lot of our members to get to grips with things in these early weeks and months, and to maintain a positive attitude.

There are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here, so do please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we will do our best to help out 🙂

Welcome Paula, as the others have said, you are in the right place 😉 Read as much as you can, ask whatever you need to know! Testing is key, it’s how you learn what works for your body, not many gp’s support type 2 testing so you might want to consider getting your own kit if you aren’t given one, the code free is what most of us go for as it’s a reasonable price 🙄

Hi Paula, Welcome to the forum🙂. Read & Learn. All here to help you on your new journey.

Welcome to the Forum. Would like to reiterate what Cathy has said about testing. I bought a kit and started testing as everyone is so individual. What suits one person does not suit another and what one person can tolerate may push someone else's levels through the roof.
