Well I’m scared, feel helpless and angry with myself for getting myself in such a state and burying my head in the sand. Diagnosed 3 years ago but thought I could tackle it alone and dodged every follow up appointment until today. I’ve reached out to this forum for support, gain motivation and some advice. I needed a kick up the bum and today has been it. Grossly overweight. 16.6. Not on any other meds etc. I came straight from the Drs and joined a gym. Wholesome changes required.

Prescribed Metformin SR 750mg x 2 a day.

Average blood sugars were 12.

Hello Amanda, welcome to the forum. 🙂

16 6 isn't gross, at the minute lots of people are that, it's almost a default if you walk down a street in town. 🙂 Anyways you'll soon get it off with your determination now. I was 18stone for years, now that's gross! :D Have you joined the slimming thread? Lots of motivational stories there, Goosey for one and Hazel is amazing, others too.

Ahh Ditto

You’re my first response! Thank you so much. I will join the slimming group. I’m glad I’ve made the decision to turn my health around bit scared too as I’m gonna have to change a lot of my lifestyle, which includes times with friends and family as they are part of this vicious circle and I need to change for my own wellbeing. That sounds a bit crazy though as I should be able to be who I want to become and not stress about others!

Thanks Ditto

You can't really, we're all involved with one another, it's very difficult. You just have to work out what's best for you and if anybody pipes up you just stick to your guns. You can always lead by example, good choices will soon start to show in your skin and figure and by how well you feel and look. 🙂 Go for it. You'll pass me on the way down... 😉

Hi @Amanda76 and welcome to the forum.🙂
Any questions just fire away (no question is daft) and one or more of us will be along to help wherever we can.

Hello Amanda!
First I would like to say that although you may be overweight, you aren't gross. I find that letting myself be rude about myself even in my head doesn't help my self esteem which is vital in getting control of my health.
You have made a decision and it's a good one. Could you maybe let one or two of the friends and family know about this and get them on your side?

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Don't worry about the past, just focus on getting it all together for the future. This is a good place to rant if you ever need!

Hello Amanda, from a T2

Hello Amanda

Welcome to the forum. Be kind to yourself, and look forward to seeing you sharing your successes (and frustrations!) in the coming weeks.

I quite agree Radders.
Hello Amanda and welcome to forum. Be positive about yourself and put your past responses to your diabetes behind you. You’ve made a decision to help to improve your health and well-being, so go for it girl. I lost 4stone 4 lb, and still look in the mirror at times and see a wee fatty, not a skinny Minnie, but give myself a mental shake.

No regrets Amanda and look forward. This forum and the support you will get is amazing, and sometimes you will read or write something that others have felt or experienced and it can be like a light bulb moment.
Take care and remember-no question is a daft one and might be the one that helps someone else
