Been battling with type 1 diabetes for 20 years. It's beginning to take a roll on me. I tend to feel depressed a lot, even if my blood sugar is normal. Does anyone experience this.

Welcome to the forum @eeva

Diabetes Distress, and Diabetes Burnout can be a really challenging part of living with diabetes long-term. It can be a frustrating, demanding, and relentless condition to live with.

And as US blogger Kim Vlasnik once memorably wrote, we put in all the effort and discipline required to manage our glucose levels so that nothing happens. And ‘nothing’ is a pretty lousy reward.

Diabetes distress and burnout are increasingly recognised amd researched, and you may find that there are additional sources of help available to you

Hang in there. These things sometimes come in phases, and the pressure may lift in time.

But keep sharing your experiences and venting/ranting here too - we get it.

Welcome @eeva 🙂 Sorry to hear that the diabetes is getting you down. I’ve suffered from burnout and it’s a horrible thing. I found relaxing my targets ever so slightly eased the pressure a bit, and keeping my breakfast and lunch pretty much the same each day removed a little bit of the mental load.

Are you on injections or a pump? Do you have a Libre? Is there anything in particular about the diabetes that’s getting to you?

It might be things in addition to the diabetes, so if you continue to feel down, do speak to your GP.

Welcome to the forum @eeva . I am sorry to hear that things are getting on top of you at present. It is not uncommon.

When I hit burnout it otf me a while to ask for help, and I was determined to improve my management, when in fact I needed to recognise the impossibility of perfect results. For others it is just not wanting to do all that we need to do day to day. Whatever the reason it is good to ask for help.

I am very pleased that you have found the forum. Loads of support available from people who ‘get it’.
If you feel happy to do so let us know how you manage your T1. Pens or pump? What insulin(s)? Sensor?
This info will help us when answering your questions.

Do look at the link @everydayupsanddowns has posted for ideas on how to manage distress and burnout, and keep in touch.
