hello my name is shell
I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 weeks ago.
I started on metformin last friday and have my eye screening this week.
still trying to get my head around everything atm, everythings just a bit of a whirl wind with my other problems going off aswell.
nurses have been great with how quick they have got me on meds. Hoping to go on the liquid/shakes diet soon but for now I am trying to diet and cut alot of things out to help.

Welcome to the forum. How much you will need to do will depend on how high your HbA1C is, that will be a number over 47mmol/mol which is the threshold for diagnosis. I assume you are a fair way into the diabetic zone as metformin has been prescribed. If not too far then people are often given the opportunity to make life style changes first for 3 months. Even with the medication dietary changes are needed.
You mention the soups and shakes regime which some people have found successful in giving them a kick start but other find that adopting a low carbohydrate approach works for them, so you may want to looks at that to give you some ideas of what that involves. This link should help and no reason not to start with those changes in the meantime. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Yes you are pretty high so that explains why you have been prescribed metformin, hopefully you will have been advised to build up to the 4 tablets over a few weeks to minimise any side effects which may affect your stomach but not everyone finds a problem.
No reason not to start making changes to your diet in the meantime.

Yeah I shall be on 4 tablets in 6 weeks time.
I had a side effect when first started them but hoping as the weeks go on leading up for 4 tablets I won't get any but never know.
I've cut out the sugar in do have and watch what I do for meals now and less portions. Thank you for your advise/help.

I think that if you are getting some issues it is better not to increase the dose until you are OK with the lower one as increasing would only make it worse, but check with your diabetic nurse.
Don't forget it is not just sugar that is the problem but all carbohydrates convert to glucose so it is those foods that you need to be careful of as you will see if you look at the links people have posted.

Hi @Shell D and welcome to the forum!
I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis, especially if you have other things going on as well. I’m glad you’re willing to make the necessary changes for your health though, there’s users here who are doing different types of diets and lifestyle changes so have a read around the threads. And do feel free and encouraged to use the forum as a space to ask questions, share your experiences or simply have a rant, which sometimes is much needed.
