Type 2
Hi all, my name is Cheryl, I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I only went into see the GP for a routine appointment so am still getting my head around what this will mean.

Hello @Cheryl S and welcome to the forum!

Like most people who have just been diagnosed you will probably be feeling confused, lost, and shocked, and wondering what to do
Firstly, try not to worry - easy to say, I know
You can live well with diabetes, though you will probably need to make changes to your diet
In fact many people take their diagnosis as the motivation to cut out junk food, a lot of booze, eat more veg, do more exercise, and all the rest of the healthy stuff we hear about

There is a lot of information and advice on here, have a look at -

Living With Diabetes on the Home Page of Diabetes UK
Learning Zone, the red tab at the top of this page
Previous Threads, especially in the Newcomers section, and if necessary Weight Loss

That's a lot of homework to do!
So take it slowly and ask any questions, but remember that nothing on here is too simple or silly so ask away

Hi @Cheryl S, welcome to the forum.

It's natural to feel overwhelmed when first diagnosed as it's a lot to take in. Many of us came to the forum without really understanding what the diagnosis means and soon gained clarity so you're in good hands.

You've had some great info already so I'd suggest starting by reading the page below and when you have a bit of time, going to the learning zone to get a more structured, clearer picture of things.

We've also got loads of really helpful info on the forum so do have a look around and let us know if you have any questions.

Hi @Cheryl S
I feel the same, I only got diagnosed on Thursday and I am so overwhelmed with everything and confused and just want to go to bed and pull the covers over my head
I can only advise eating a low carb diet - I have been doing that for over 5 years and on May Day morning I will rise before the lark and go and dance the sun up in the garden.
I have lost weight without effort and I go out a lot more these days - I have even increased the amount of work I do and can haul the heavy knitting machines around more easily.
Most people with classic type 2 suffer from lack of energy as they just can't cope with the amount of carbs in the modern diet. I have chops or steak or some left over meat for breakfast and feel great, and nowhere near being 72 years old.
