Hi All,
Just joined today so looking forward to sharing my thoughts and also gaining knowledge from you all.

Welcome to the forum. Would you like to say a bit more about your diagnosis, what your HbA1C is, have you been prescribed any medication, do you have weight to lose as that will make it easier to give appropriate answers to any questions you have.
If you are routinely cycling then I expect you are fairly fit.
If you are proposing to make dietary changes in reducing carbohydrates then increasing protein and healthy fats will help you maintain energy levels.
This link may help you with some ideas for meals https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/. How you approach your diet will depend on what medication if any you are taking.
Protein nut bars are good as snacks as they are low carb less than 10g per bar for many or snacks of cheese, nuts veg sticks.

Welcome to the forum @Ricardo Velo

Have you been living with diabetes for long?

Is there anything in particular that you are finding tricky at the moment?

Ask away with any questions you have, nothing will be considered ‘silly’ 🙂

Hi Mike,
Was diagnosed a week ago. I am off to see the diabetic nurse Tuesday so will find out more then. I think for the moment it’s all about the what I can eat and what to avoid. one question is what meat should I avoid

Hope the appointment goes well 🙂

In terms of meats… there will probably be some different views from different forum members. The positive thing is that meat won’t generally have any impact on your blood glucose levels, and the high protein content helps you to feel fuller for longer.

There is some research that suggests that processed meats (like bacon, ham, sausages and continental sausages are best restricted to smaller quantities, and too much red meat is also suggested in some research to be best avoided.

Oily fish gets positive mentions, and chicken can be low fat if that is a concern for you

As long as you don‘t go overboard, I think you can have whichever types you prefer.

Page 8 here has some suggestions 🙂

Why would you want to avoid meat.. a virtually zero carb food type that will likely have a minimal impact on your blood glucose levels.
It's all I eat some days (in remission for the past 7 years).

Greek yogurt is good (not the zero % fat type). Check out Fage 5%, very low carbs, add some berries and nuts as per your taste. Eggs, all ways are good. An omelette with added items such as onions, mushrooms, spinach, small amount of cheese is a favourite in our house. Fish, chicken both versatile and healthy. Loads of veggies, pick up some you have never tried before, look on it as a cookery challenge!

Food intolerances, cultural preferences, religious reasons, ... and that's without some people's ethical choice to prefer vegetarian diet.
Except that I asked Richard..

Glad you didn't say for health reasons though..
