Hi everyone, Found out today I’m type 2.
Been referred to diabetic nurse & for checks on feet & eyes etc, will be diet controlled to start with. My cholesterol was 4.2 so surprised when I was put on statins, there’s so much I didn’t know and still so much to learn. Head is spinning with all the info! I’m hoping being here will help me start to understand things a bit more as time goes on.

My doctor was spot on, so I'd listen to them, and then take stock after it's sunk in, and you can formulate a plan for moving forwards.
It's a slow program, not a race, so it's all good from now on.

The way to push back type two is to eat fewer cabs, and beware of those touted as 'healthy' - I was healthied into a Hba1c of 91 to lower cholesterol - and it didn't.
I found that statins were not for me.
Metformin and Atorvastatin for a few weeks and I was thinking that my only options were an old peoples home and nappies or suicide. Once I ditched them and stuck to what I knew - 50 gm of carbs a day as per Atkins and I was soon back to normal figures - but it took ages to relearn all the things I had forgotten, and I am still not back playing my guitar after over two years.

Thanks travellor, day at a time I guess

It’s a minefield, and so many contradictions.

Always one day at a time.
You can choose the "push back", but you need to be sure you are right, and everyone else is wrong.

I found the NHS was actually right.
I lost weight on a low fat diet.
I reversed my diabetes. Don't rush, find the way that suits you.

Thanks again, I’ll follow what they say at my appointments, they’re the experts after all.

The NHS worked really well for me.
I reversed my diabetes, so I can't complain about my treatment.

Hi June and welcome. Sorry to hear you have ‘joined our club’. It takes some time to come to terms with your diagnosis, I still have days when I’m sure they have made a mistake (dg Jan 19). Just to let you know I am on both Atorvastatin and Metformin which doesn’t cause me a problem, everyone is different. Perhaps read through some of the posts but don’t become overwhelmed by all the new information. Everyone is here to help you and each other

Thanks for your message Sue. Does feel a bit overwhelming at the minute, and I do feel it will take time like you say. There’s lot more to diabetes than I realised.

If you are lucky you might get someone in the NHS who knows what they are talking about, but the educator I had was, quite frankly dangerous.
There were several people on the course, at the second session a couple came and the man was obviously seriously ill - they were taken aside and given his Hba1c results in hushed tones. The advice was still the same though - wholemeal and brown, potatoes and beans - luckily I managed to find them in the car park and said to look at Atkins, but they were not there for the third session.
