Type 1
Guys,

I'm new so be kind!

My 13 yr old daughter was diagnosed Type 1 on Weds, and we have a question.

She's tested 14.4 tonight before her Levimir shot, ketones are fine at 0.2, so is she still OK having a couple of slices of toast? or whats the best action before bed?

Thanks
Neil

Welcome Neil. That's a hard one for us to say yes or no. It is deff on the higher side. What has she been doing & what has she just eaten ?

Think its because she had some ice cream after her teatime meal of meatballs and pasta. Just been chilling since, meal was at 5.30pm.

Pasta is reasonable high carb & ice cream. Keep testing & only you will know. May be just one slice of toast. Really good luck & keep asking 🙂

Is she just on Levemir or does she have a mealtime insulin as well?

Mealtime insulin too, but only breakfast, lunch and tea...nothing later...just Levimir at 'Supper' so about 9pm

Does she normally have supper? I would only have something carby at that time of night if I was on the low side - say below 5. you shouldn't need to eat anything with the Levemir as it is just the background insulin. Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs and she was just hungry!

Another add on to this....after having her Levimir at about 9pm, is a small amount of chocolate an issue, or only when she has other food with her NovaRapid?

If the question is can she have chocolate after her Levimir I'm unsure as I'm on a different type but if it works the same as my way I was only diagnosed 2 weeks ago so someone would need to confirm but if the portion of chocolate is less than 10g carbohydrate then I think it's fine as I say you would need confirmation on that though
