Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
hi my name is jacqui I am new to this forum but was diagnosed with type 2 back in 2005 aged 24. I was diet controlled for many years then 2 years ago was out on tablets and now I An on insulin. Had a few issues in life of late and my diabetes is suffering. It's almost like I am in denial and really struggling. Was looking for an education course and can't find one local and support groups here soon non existent too. Sometimes I feel like I am in this alone lol. What I really need are some good books and advice think the only way I can get back on track is to pretend I am back at the beginning of my journey and try and learn all over again. Anyway wanted to pop by and say hello

Hi Jacqui, welcome to the forum 🙂 Firstly, you are not alone - there are lots of lovely, friendly and knowledgeable people here who will be more than happy to help in any way they can 🙂

I think you are right to look at this as a fresh start - put the past behind you, you can't change that, and think of yourself as newly-diagnosed and how you are going to tackle this and get things under good control 🙂

I'd suggest having a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter for starters, and get yourself a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. You'll probably know a lot of this stuff already, but maybe not - when we have been diagnosed for a few years, sometimes things pass us by because everyone seems to assume that we already 'know everything' - which of course, is never true, we learn every day 🙂

Our members are scattered the length and breadth of the country (and even further afield!), and it doesn't always beat 'face-to-face' support, but it can really help to be able to speak freely and without judgement about the problems and difficulties you are facing 🙂

What insulin regime are you on?

Hi Jacqui, Welcome. Feel free to ask questions,
