My Story...

Longtime reader, first time writer lol.

So just wanted to take part and put my journey out there.

I was diagnosed at the end of summer 2019, when i look back all the alarm bells was ringing but i didnt pay attention to my body. I experinced weight loss, uncontrolably neeeding to go the toilet, fatigue.

Everyonge telling me to go doctors but i ignored until i went to america for my mothers birthday and one day i couldnt make the car journey home, my bladder gave in. The next day i went to doctor and was given the news.

My BG level was 17.6 pretty decent lifestyle not the most healthy (i love a burger) but defiently no where near what i presumed bad enough to be diabetic.

After i came back to the uk, they confirmed i had Type 2 and the summary of our meeting was take this metformin 3xtimes a day (i deemed this excessive lol, i hate tablets), lose about 15kg (something i knew in my heart), clean the diet up.

October, November and December was food managed only and i got down to the BG down to the 7 region and from 2020 i went back to the gym.

So im currently exercising 3/4 times a week and have taken up intermitten fasting, i used to do it so very easy for me, and i have dropped myself to 1 tablet a day. Currently i have got my daily morning fasting level to a roughly 5.5.
I have decided to wait until my birthday in May to get my blood work done and re-evaluated. I know what i need to do, to put myself in better stead a beat it.

Has anyone else self decided on when to test and not etc?

Hi,
Diet has a much bigger influence on both T2D and on weight loss than exercise.
Moderate exercise for round 30 min per day and at least 5 times per week is the best. - Think a brisk walk rather than an intensive session in a Gym.

If you want to use a Gym routine for controlling your T2D, then choose resistance exercises to build muscle, since the more muscle you have, the more Glucose your body can safely hold in it- so the less it hangs around in your blood.

I hope this helps.

Hi @mrjay85 , I was in your position just under 2 yrs ago, listening to the advice here I lost 2.5 stones of weight, I adopted a low carb , higher healthy fat diet and upped exercise , I brought my HbA1c from 77 to 35 within 3 months where it has stayed under and has been at 32 last 2 readings, you sound as if you’re definitely on track ...

I don't get the opportunity to choose - the hospital and the GP surgery do it when it suits them. It is possible sometimes to change appointments but unless I do it immediately and it's months away, it will then be put back a couple of months since the ones in between will already have been filled.

Hello @mrjay85
Thanks for joining the forum.
Yours is quite a success story, and I'm sure you are well on track for good test results when you decide the time is right.

What is your diet like now?

Thank you, i appreciate it, my mindset was like, why am i going to get tested now when i know im just getting into the swing of it. just wanted to make sure their was no requirement once i have got myself managed. same with the tablets

much better, i havent really gone for a low carb or anything, just cleaner, only water and green tea.
im looking to go plant based for a month of lent see how i like it.

Controlling blood glucose with a plant only diet is one of the more difficult options, as a type two can deal with protein and fat, no problem, but with a plant based diet everything has carbohydrates - I'd be able to deal with about 200 calories a day, so it would not be at all comfortable.

Hi @mrjay85 - welcome to the forum. I used this site after reading many threads on here, i found it pretty informative. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb - You will also need to get in the habit of reading labels on foods, for their carb content, its surprising where all the 'hidden' sugars are sometimes.
