Type 1
Hi just a quick hello,

We have just found out our son has type 1 (found out on friday 11th jan 2013).
As you will all know it came as a shock, but we have him home and are slowly getting our heads around it 🙂

We arrived to hospital just in time apparently as his sugars were at 38.7 and keytones hi too.

So bare with me if i ask some what may seem silly questions to you guys

Hybriduno

Hi Hybriduno, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your son;s diagnosis. There will be a lot to take in but try not to become overwhelmed - there's lots of support available and you are free to ask anything that may be concerning or confounding you, no question is considered 'silly'!

I would suggest having a look at the Useful links thread where you will find links to lots of good resources. I'd also urge you to get a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - known as the 'Type 1 bible', and indispensible 🙂

What insulin is he on, and how is he taking it? How old is he?

Hi, and thanks for the reply 🙂 he is on nova rapid before meals + levemir at night.
He has a pen to inject which he's doing most himself (he did the second injection he needed and wanted to carry on lol).

He's 8 yrs old 🙂
