Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello, I have only recently signed up to Diabetes UK, admittedly I should have done this 'absolutely decades ago'.
I was diagnosed as having Type 1 diabetes in my early teens, back in 1973-74. So over the years, from the times of having to boil syringes & needles to sterilise them, along with using animal derived insulin.
In my time as a diabetic I've seen a continual evolution in diabetic care & medicine.
But the constant during my time is, and I'm sure Diabetes UK have been there.
I do not think I could describe in words the wealth & value of this Organisation.
As my years on insulin has ticked by, and my Old'ometer increases, I've joined up to learn & ever improve my diabetic care, knowledge & understanding.

:Nova rapid
:Levemir.
:Metformin.
Being my prime & direct diabetic care medicines.

Welcome to the forum @Rocco
Good to have your years of experience on here.

You have certainly seen some big changes in your time with T1.
Have you been offered a Libre sensor, which tracks your levels throughout the day, and also shows you the direction of travel of them, which gives us so much more information.

Are there any specific ares of your management that you are looking to change?
Do ask any questions that you have, and know that nothing is considered silly on here.

Hee hee - I was diagnosed in 1972 aged 22 - and you know when you were a kid and old folk used to say 'Oooh, when I was a girl/lad, this/that didn't used to happen blah blah' and we both glazed our eyes and thought Oh, boring, yawn - well that's what you and me can do now

Times do and have changed - but No Way Pedro do I hope we'll ever return to boiling up syringes and/or pee - youth may have been the best of times, but in other ways, also the the worst!

Welcome to the forum @Rocco

We’ve a fair few members with quite bit of T1 mileage under their belts. I’m a relative newcomer to the party with only a smidge over 30 years on the clock.

I can remember BM sticks and syringes, but that’s about as antiquated as I get.

Look forward to hearing more of your experiences over the weeks and months.
