Type 2
Hi Everyone.

Newbie here, just thought I'd say hello. Just been diagnosed with type 2 (I think!) waiting to go and see the nurse next week who will tell me more.

Pretty p****d off about it all at the moment, obviously worried about losing my job as I need my HGV licence to work.

Hi Simon, welcome to the forum🙂 It's never great news, but hopefully you will be able to get to grips with things and it is better that you are diagnosed rather than living in ignorance and your health gradually failing without you knowing. The good news is that often Type 2 diabetes can be managed by just adapting your diet and lifestyle, to make your body able to use the insulin it is producing. If this is not sufficient then there are pills that can help too. Your license only becomes at risk if you need to go on insulin injections or certain blood sugar-lowering drugs which, for many Type 2s does not happen at all, or at least for many years - so don't despair! You can still get a car license when on insulin and the rules are currently being reviewed for larger vehicles.

Hope things go well at your appointment, please feel free to ask any questions you may have on the General messageboard!

Hi Simon - Sorry to hear of your news!

However, please be aware that if it is Type 2 diabetes then a great deal can be achieved in sorting out things by changes to diet.

Let people know how you get on with the diagnosis and then other forum members will help you to get moving in the right direction.

Good luck and best wishes - John
