Hi Emma, welcome to the forum! I lived in Sheffield for 20 years - mainly in Crookes/Broomhill, but also over in Heeley!

Sorry to hear of the problems you've been having. If you have any questions we will do our best to help. What insulin are you on and have they put you on any other medication?

Hello Emma.

I am also type2 and on insulin

Welcome to the group, you will find a fantastic bunch of people here and everyone willing to help in anyway they can, any questions you have just ask, someone will have an answer or put you in the right direction for the answer. I joined this group when it started last October, and I have learned far more from its members than I have from the so say experts.

Hi John

Thanks for the welcome. I am a nurse but don't have experience in diabetes care I work in theatre! I can safely say I do not have much faith in the professionals!

Thanks Alison. I have picked myself up and dusted myself down 3times guess I can do it again.

Just 1 question once I have started using the insulin do I need to store it in the fridge? Am not sure and didn't get a clear answer from nurse.

Hi Emma and welcome to the forum. What a dreadful time you have had! You sound very strong and positive - i do hope you can get some help and support from the lovely people on here. My son is 11 and was diagnosed 10 months ago type 1. He is now on a pump.🙂Bev

Bev I often don't feel very strong. I have a beautiful little man keeping me going, in the form of my son Oscar who is 3. He is a superstar. He has given me massive cuddles today. He is my reason for getting up and facing each day.

Hi Emma and welcome to the forum, you'll find all the support and guidance you need here, and answers to all your questions.

Not necessarily from me, though, lol, as I'm afraid I can't answer your first question, as I'm not an insulin user. Someone will be along any minute now to help you though, I'm sure.

Sorry to hear you've had such a rough 12 months.

xx

Hi Emma,

Sorry to read of things you have been through in the last year or so, and I am sorry that you now have diabetes and that is why you are with us here on the forum, but I am glad you have found us.

I cant imagine the hard time you are having with everything but any support we can offer please lean on us.

Looking forward to talking at some stage and I hope you diabetes management gets under control.

Love Louisa x

Yes, sorry, I could have helped there- pop your insulin the fridge! You need to keep it cool at fridge temp until you take it out to use it. It can then stay out in your pen (or whatever you use) for one month while it is in use.

Hope that helps x

Thanks I have the others in the fridge have just put the first cartridge in the pen to use tonight. Seeing diabetic nurse next week and waiting for a referral to consultant now. Hoping I can get it all under control and start trying again for another baby. Want it under control before we go there.

Thanks for the welcome.
And thanks Helen too.

I keep my insulin in the fridge door (never put it in the freezer!). The cartridge that you are using in the pen doesn't need to be refrigerated, just kept at room temperature - normally OK for 28 days, but there should be a leaflet with the insulin that tells you how long for your particular type. When the pen cartridge is about a day away from running out I take a new one out of the fridge so it is at room temperature by the time I come to use it. Sometimes it can sting a little when injecting insulin that's still cold from the fridge.
