Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Thankyou for accepting me. I’m really looking for a meal planner or a list of foods/sauces to eat as I am pre diabetic.
My last HbA1c test this year was 44 mmol.

Many thanks

Welcome @Carole12 🙂 A good starting point is to look at what you were eating pre-diagnosis and see if you can make any changes. Those changes are usually cutting down on carbs (both sweet and savoury) and adding more green veg, along with some lower GI foods.

There are some meal plans here to start you off:

You could also look at the Learning Zone on the orange tab at the top of this page.

Hi @Carole12 and welcome to the forum.
Since you are only just in the pre-diabetic range, you should be able to reverse your pre-diabetes by just cutting down a little on sweet fruit or starchy veg without having to do something drastic.

As said you probably only need to make some modest changes to your diet but it is important to regard it as a new way of eating so needs to be enjoyable and sustainable.
This link may also help with some ideas for modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

I’ve been at the pre diabetic level for a few years now. It’s just that since having Covid I took a reading which seemed to be very high….and so I’d like to get serious about getting my HbA1c levels down if possible and home testing blood glucose as well.

Just asking a little bit of advice ….I’ve read that bulgar wheat is a good and acceptable choice for those with diabetes (or pre of course) and I had a small amount with chicken and plain yoghurt mixed together with a little chilli. One and half hours later my blood glucose reading was 8.7……isn’t this regarded as high?

You are aiming at to have no more than a 2-3mmol/l increase from before eating to 2 hours after or no more than 8-8.5mmol/l 2 hours post meal. So what you say was probably within the accuracy of the monitor, by 2 hours which is normally the time to test I suspect you would have been OK.
Bulgar wheat is just another carb but may be metabolised more slowly by some people, I think lower carb than rice but still watch the portion size.

Thankyou very much. I think trial and error will play a role as everyone’s metabolism is different to a certain extent.

I looked like a good choice you made, did you have any veg or salad with it as that would give you some extras on the plate without many carbs so to speak.

No I didn’t…..I’m just recovering from Covid and my appetite is still a bit low……but it would have been a great idea especially as I love salad. ☺️

Likewise, both myself and other half are recovering, I have not been too bad, a couple of days of tickly cough, stuffy nose, bit of a headache.
I hope you soon feel better, Covid can increase blood glucose but stay hydrated and just have what you can manage.

Ahhh so this is what I’ve seen…..my blood glucose level seemed a bit high and it bothered me……I did read that Covid can affect diabetes or even bring it about in a healthy person ….gosh! I’m still rather fatigued and lightheaded but getting there …..hubby wasn’t as bad as me but feels a bit tired after working in the garden……nasty virus!
