I don't no, I was diagnosed christmas eve type 2 but I use Insulin once a day had a test in mid January and they have no idea and don't no when they will test me again so I still don't no.

This must be awfully confusing for you and it would be a good idea if you could find out what tests you had as that will help people help you and make suggestions on the next step.
You would have been diagnosed by an HbA1C test where a result over 47mmol/mol would give you that diagnosis but would not tell you what type you would be, that requires other tests. You may be told what type you are based on clinical symptoms, thirst, frequent loo visits, UTIs and if you are over weight then the assumption is you are Type 2. But those symptoms plus if you suddenly lost weight without trying then the pointer could be for Type 1 or LADA so additional tests should be done.
You should also get foot and retinal screening eye tests as well.
As you have been given insulin I would assume your HbA1C was quite high, but often other oral medications would be the first port of call so were you prescribed any of those. What insulin have you been given?
It would be usual to have a follow up HbA1C after 3-6 months to check that any measure are working.
Also have you been given a monitor to test your blood glucose at home as that really is mandatory if you are on insulin.
If you drive there are rules about that also.
If you are happy to share some of that information and how you came to be diagnosed that would help people answer the questions I'm sure you must have.

I was taking metformin 2 tablets a day for about 4 weeks about January I was going to the loo nearly ever hour day and night not sleeping feeling drained and lost over 2 and a half stone in under 2 weeks went to the doctors who sent me straight to a&e was there most of Friday night had to go back all day Saturday half day Sunday then Monday to learn how to inject myself I am using lantus insulin once a day and 4 metformin tablets daily I have a blood monitor that I was using 4 times a day now only once as my sugars seem to be under control I have had a retinal eye test which was all clear my sight was really bad from January for about 2 months had to wear glasses as I couldn't see anything, I'm just getting on with it now, haven't seen or spoken to anyone for months about diabetes just learning from yourself and the Internet .

From what you say I would almost certainly say you are Type 1, the weight loss being a big clue, that being the case you really should have more support from a specialist diabetic centre to give you a better working regime with your insulin and offer you some training for eating normally, matching carb intake to your insulin and a basal /bolus regime which would give you a more flexible diet.
High blood glucose can cause bad eyesight so as your level has reduced it should have improved but equally a rapid reduction in blood glucose can cause problems with your eyes.
Do you drive as you should inform the DVLA you are on insulin
I hope a few other folk more familiar with insulin will be along to give you some words of wisdom.

I think you ought to ring your GP surgery in the morning, ask them if the hospital have told them what happened in A&E, what they did then and what's supposed to be happening now, since nobody's bothered to tell you! I know the NHS is struggling - BUT.

I don't drive and my eyesight is much better now back to normal .
Welcome to the forum @Mark70

As others have said it does sound like you are Type1, and you certainly should have access to more specialist support than you do. Late development of T1 does not always follow the same patterns and we each have different insulin requirements, which will keep our levels in check as best we can.

It would certainly be useful for you to know what tests were done and the results of these. Metformin can have unpleasant side effects and if you are a T1 you might not need these tablets, if your meals were managed with a quick acting insulin. This would give you more flexibility, and possibly a happier stomach.

Hey similar situation myself with an unclear diagnosis. Did the doctor order your tests that you had in jan ? If so you maybe able to access them through your doctors website. Sometimes you have to request permission to do this but it isn’t usually a problem. They usually do antibody tests for a type 1 diagnosis and a cpeptide test to determine your own insulin secretion. Just if all the indicators point to type 1 you could get the libre on prescription and have access to more support
