Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey guys,

Diagnosed with type 1 roughly 2 weeks ago. I'm a very active person particularly in CrossFit, weightlifting and cycling. If anyone has any useful tips when it goes to fitness please enlighten me or any T1 tips at all would be good! Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

I posted one a few days ago, https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/board...d-cgm-iscgm-systems-in-type-1-diabetes.88326/

If you don't have a CGM (or isCGM such as Libre) then that advice isn't helpful. (But you really should try and get Libre prescribed because it's so helpful, especially in the context of exercise.)

Usually the risk is BG going down. However, it's also possible for it to rise with exercise, if you're doing anaerobic (high intensity) exercise. (It's not something I do, but people say that's the case.)

Hello and welcome @GlennBelfast 🙂

I hope you're feeling better and things are starting to settle after diagnosis. It is a big shock to the system. What insulins are you on? Have you been told about carb counting and dose adjustment as yet - it makes things more flexible especially when exercising. Have you been advised to take it gently until your blood sugar is stable? Make certain to carry hypo treatments everywhere - fast acting glucose plus carry some more longer lasting carbs for sustained energy & your glucose meter.

This is a good site for all things T1 and different sports/exercise - http://www.runsweet.com/diabetes-and-sport/

Thanks! Yes I'm getting the libre in 2 weeks! I'll have a look at the link you post it. My understanding is that basically, cardio fitness will reduce BG where weightlifting will increase it. I'll have to experiment a little to get the balance right I suppose

hey, thanks for the info! I'm on novarapid and lantus at the minute, and on set dosages which is being altered regularly by the specialist. Been taking it fairly light as my BG is only starting to settle. It was a bit of a shock but I sort of knew going into the GP that it was more than likely diabetes, just got to get on with it now!

As I understand it that's a reasonable summary. There are some videos (again in the context of Libre (or some CGM)),
