Hello @Owen m . Welcome to the forum, but sorry you had to find us.
How are you now.
I am guessing you are still in hospital ?

Hi @Owen m welcome.
How are you feeling now? There is a lot of information to take in just after diagnosis but you‘ve come to the right place. Everyone here is really supportive and happy to answer any questions you might have.

Hi @Owen m I hope you’re feeling a lot better now.

A Type 1 diagnosis is a big shock so be kind to yourself. It’s a condition where you become your own expert really, as you gradually learn how to control your blood sugar and what works for you. There’s a lot to learn, but it’s the kind of learning you do gradually and carefully.

You’re not alone. There are plenty of people here who understand and can offer advice and support.

Hi @Owen m - scary mate.

Please get your parents to send for this book - cos it will help both them and you to get to grips with your diabetes.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum @Owen m
Glad that have found us, but sorry that you needed to.

Are you still in hospital or have you made it home. There is a lot to learn very quickly but it really does become a lot easier. The best analogy I have heard is that it is like learning to drive. It all seems very complicated to start with but soon becomes automatic, and you just need to watch for the obstacles on the way.

Keep in touch and let us know hw you are doing.

Sorry to hear about your DKA @Owen m

Must have been a frightening time - particularly during the pandemic.

Hope you are feeling much better now.

Have you been offered advice around the relationship between food (carbs) and your insulin doses? Approaches seem to vary, but my thinking is the earlier you can start ‘carb counting’ to match food to insulin (or insulin to food) the better 🙂
