Hi just thought I’d pop on say hi I’m Rebecca
My son Ben was diagnosed November 2024 age 19, couple of weeks of symptoms, he also has Hashimotos diagnosed earlier in 2024, not his year. He is using libre 2 currently. Due to start the DAFNE program in May. Learning every day!

Hi @Bootsy2 (Rebecca) and welcome to the forum

Alan 😉

Thank you just here to keep on learning about type 1 and gain insight and possibly advice on anyone who has both Hashimotos and type 1

Ask as many questions as you wish and someone will pop along with some help and advice I'm sure

Welcome to the forum @Bootsy2

It’s not uncommon for a feisty immune system to get all uppity over multiple things unfortunately, so we have members who have T1 alongside conditions like Hashimotos, Coeliac, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other immune-related thyroid things.

You can browse a few old threads where Hashimotos gets mentioned here:

For a solid T1 starter, folks here often recommend

Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas (relevant to people of all ages!)
And
Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner (US endo)

We also had a thread a while back, where people offered hints and tips they wish they’d discovered much earlier in their diabetes ‘career’, which might be interesting?

Welcome to you, @Bootsy2 and your son to the Club nobody ever wanted to join!

I personally joined it over 50 years ago and though not kicking as hard or enthusiastically as I used to, at least I am still alive and the bodily failures are in the main through 'self abuse' like eg smoking and/or not enough exercise. Oh and inherited c**p like endometriosis/fibroids (solved by having it all whipped out) and a bunion causing hammer toes.
