I am new here. I have a sugar level of 50 and my doctor is going to do a fasting blood test in around 1 month to confirm. I have been eating so healthy as best as I can, but some things iam not sure about. Can I have plums?
Looking at nutrition info on a supermarket site, they seem to have about the same amount of sugar and carbs per 100g as blueberries. So if you are happy with blueberries in your diet I would say a plum may be ok - just factor in that it's a bigger fruit (many people here have a small quantity of blueberries).
I try to tell myself that what I can eat is plum, not plums.
Having grown up with an orchard at the back of the house, with two huge plum trees, my ability to control the amount of some fruits I eat is minimal to nothing, so I have to concentrate on fruits such as cucumber, tomato, courgette and others I can resist to some extent.
Diet control of diabetes is more about knowing your own strengths and weaknesses than there being a traffic light system for foods.

50mmol/mol is not desperately high so there is no reason why if you make some dietary changes and portion control you will not be able to get it back down.
Not sure what the fasting test will tell you as the HbA1C is a test that does not need to be fasting so they may be checking for something else.
Some fruits are higher carb than others but berries tend to be the lowest except blueberries which are the highest of the berries, tropical fruits, bananas, pineapple, mangos, grapes are the highest with other fruits somewhere in between.
The problem is people regard them as healthy snacks and extras rather than them being just part of what your carbs for the day or meal is.
