Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone I was diagnosed last November with T2 due to steroids intake as I have asthma. I was on metformin for a little but didn't agree with me then put on Gliclazide one a day but I keep on sweating so bad I look like a bucket of water had been tipped on my head so went GP and said sounds like I'm having hypo's and taken of Gliclazide and now on metformin hydrochloride 500mg two tables once a day with evening meal but I still seem to be having the sweats and it is embarrassing when out in public and I start sweating. Anyone else had this

Hi Paula, welcome to the forum. I havent experienced anything like that at all. Do you test your blood glucose levels each day? As that woud prove if it was a hypo.

The GP tested my blood Glucose in Friday and it was 9.2 the GP is saying the my diabetes is all under control, I don't know what is going on but frankly I've had enough with looking like I've just walked out the shower

Hi Paula ...welcome. you'll like it here - the people are lovely and friendly and very, very helpful.

I'm constantly hot and if the weather's just a little warm then my head leaks!! At night it is not unheard of for me to have to change a pillow because it's become wet through from sweating. Often I throw the duvet off (which, if anyone ever broke into the house at night and saw me lying there naked, would scar them mentally for life 😱) because I'm too hot. Your sweats could be a short term reaction to meds but I'd say it's probably worth a phone call to your Diabetic Nurse to ask the question about it. It's not a stupid question - this is bothering you and you need some help with the answer is all. 🙂

I totally understand where you coming from at night I have to sleep with the windows open as I get so hot!! I've just changed medication so I will wait and see what happens

Hi again Paula ...I wouldn't wait. A quick call to the DSN might allay some fears or prompt some changes that might be necessary. Worth a quick call eh? 🙂

Hello and welcome from a fellow T2 who's 20 months in.

Hi Paula I have exactly the same problem. I also have lung disease and take steroid inhalers which has caused the diabetes.I've asked 4 GP's about this sweating and they've just said I'm a hot person...! Not very helpful. I wear a kind of tanning type powder make-up when I go out which helps a bit.I take 80mg Gliclazide one a day. However, sweating started BEFORE I was diagnosed with diabetes... Are we the only 2 people on this forum to suffer this?

This kind of sweating can happen in diabetes. It is usually (but not always) caused by an autonomic neuropathy, which is damage to the nerves which automatically control sweating. This might have started before you were diagnosed, but that doesn't mean you didn't have diabetes. You might want to discuss this with your DSN or GP. What it isn't caused by is your medication. It is uncommon, though, which is probably why the GPs might not recognise it. It's not irreversible. It may well improve as your blood sugar levels start to return to more normal levels.

Hyperhidrosis can also occur with steroids, but only in large prolonged doses, and not at the level of steroid inhalers. If this were the cause, you would have noticed it before developing diabetes.

Thank you for the swift reply-impressive at 3am! Sadly surgery does not have a DSN and 4 GP's have just told me I'm hot...Have no idea where else to go with this.

I would suggest the citalopram might be to blame for the hot sweats xx
