I have just opened my insulin pens up to get a new one and they are not the same ! these ones are white and you need to select the dose then pull a plunger up. my old ones were gray and i just dialed the dose and used it.
I hope i am using them correctly.

Are you absolutely sure they contain the correct insulin for you Paul? Perhaps worth having a word with the pharmacist about the change of pen in case you have been given the wrong ones - have a look on the manufacturer's website to see if there is any information there.

if you are talking about the solostar pen then it should still be a grey colour.

Never used or heard of the optiset pen, if this isn't whats on your prescription then get the pharmacist to change back for solostar pens.

The optiset is the older pen, a lot of people didn't like it, and as mentioned it uses 2u dose increments. It's discontinued as of this month in the UK. Someone using up old stocks??

As it happens - Paul takes 28u of Lantus (according to his sig) so he should be OK for the time being - but they are terribly clunky pens and if you overdial you have to pull the thing back out and go back to 0 before you can redial (I used em in the past - ruddy PITA they were if you didn't concentrate) (or of course you could waste the misdialled insulin if you want to finish the ruddy things quicker than normal, not that I'd ever suggest that of course LOL)
