Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I've recently been diagnosed with type 2. At the same time with a skin condition folliculitis. I wonder if there is anything that can be done with the latter.

Whoever diagnosed the folliculitis should have explained any treatment or given a link to a leaflet to read about it and the options etc. Did they just diagnose it and give no suggestions? Can you do an econsult to ask about treatment options if they gave you no information on it?

Hi and welcome.

Sorry you have developed diabetes you but have come to the right place to learn how to manage it and get support.
Since folliculitis is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection of hair follicles, it may well be linked to your diabetes as both bacterial and fungal infections thrive in a sugar rich environment. Do you know what your HbA1c result is? This is the blood test used to diagnose diabetes and monitor your management of it. It will usually be a number in excess of 47 but can be into 3 figures if things are badly out of kilter. If the folliculitis is linked to your diabetes, then I would expect your HbA1c result to be quite high so getting your diabetes under control may well resolve the skin disorder. If you haven't been prescribed any medication to treat the foliculitis, I personally would try Germoline cream on the individual inflamed follicles, as that works really well for me on skin infections like spots.
Have you been given any medication for your diabetes and if so which one(s)? Do you have a follow up appointment for the diabetes, perhaps with a nurse?

Welcome to the forum @damiansmith1

Sorry to hear about your diabetes diagnosis and folliculitis.

Were you aware that things weren’t right for a while? Or did your diagnoses come out of the blue?

A diagnosis with a condition like diabetes can feel overwhelming to begin with, so be kind to yourself, and give yourself time to adjust and come to terms with it.

Fire away with any questions as they arise, nothing will be considered ‘silly’ 🙂
