Hi. I have recently been diagnosed with type two diabetes... HB1AC of 49 so only just!! On statins for cholesterol (was 7.9 now 5.1) and meds for high BP. Feeling overwhelmed, scared and out of my depth. Need to lose weight so am trying lower carbs to start. Any support or help gratefully received

Hi Weighttogo, welcome to the forum. I'm also T2 and had an HbA1c of 83 at it's highest, and have got that down by dieting and weight loss, as have others on the forum.
You don't have too far to travel to get back to non-diabetic levels, and it looks like you've started on that journey by looking at your diet and lowering carbs. Well done on getting your cholesterol down with the statins, sounds like that's worked well. You can do simple things like changing the proportions of food on your plate, so have less potatoes and more veggies, or half the pasta and more mushrooms, there's information about food swaps in the Learning Zone if you want to sign up for that. Also be mindful of places/times when you know you're going to struggle with portion control, so if you go out for a meal, will you be lead astray? You can plan ahead by looking at the menu online first before you go, and see what you can eat that isn't too carby or too calorific, and stick to that.
There's a Weight loss forum if you want to read how other people have tackled their weight.
I know it's all a bit much at first, and overwhelming, but you're doing the right things by looking at your diet. We're all happy to support you with any questions you may have.
Best wishes, Sarah

You are only just over the threshold so modest changes are probably all you are going to need but it is still at a level to be taken seriously. This link might help you with some decisions about dietary changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
It uses principal that many people have found successful in reducing their blood glucose levels and also by reducing carbohydrate they have seen a positive effect on their cholesterol levels and ratios.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I am 9 weeks into my diagnosis and learning every day, and still feel overwhelmed at times. There are lots of people on here with masses of experience and knowledge who are willing to help. I have found the book carbs & cals recommended by people on here to be invaluable, its stopped me worrying about what I can/cannot eat as I can check carb content before eating, its also available on an app. 🙂
