I was diagnosed 3 days ago with type 2 and I have had sores on my legs for 4-6 weeks. They seem to come up for no reason and arent near healing. Beware reading forward as I am about to describe the sores and they are gross! They seem deep and are scabs (mostly) or red lumps with puss in the middle that eventually turn into scabs. Surrounding skin is purple then red. They are really sore to touch. Don't really itch that much. I've had a lot of swelling in the legs and feet so I'm aware I have circulatory issues.
Ideas for treatment? I've been on antibiotics in conjunction with using antibiotic cream, after hardly any change the Dr then prescribed combination steroid/antibiotic cream. The combination cream worked much better but they are still far from healed.
Comments are welcome.

My idea would be to get back to the doctor and get a 2nd opinion could these be "boils"? probably not, go to a doctor

Hi Lucy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about the problem you are having. If your blood sugar levels are high then this can slow healing for infections. Have you seen a specialist about this? If not, then I would insist on getting your GP to refer you. When you have diabetes, problems like this can be difficult to treat and need specialist attention. When did you first see the GP about the problem? If you also have circulatory problems then this can also make healing slow. Please insist on seeing a specialist - GPs sometimes fail to realise the seriousness of such problems. If you have any difficulties, I would call the Diabetes UK Careline service - they will be able to advise you how to go about making sure you get the best possible care. They can be contacted at:

Please let us know how things go!

Your blood glucose levels need longer than 3 days to get back to normal levels, and it's probably because of high levels for many months that sores have become long standing. How are you tackling your blood glucose? Duet, exercise, body weight, and often medication as well, are all important.
