Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,
I have be Type 2 diabetic for ten years and most of that time was well controlled with diet only.
unfortunately as I have got older I have had to take medication. I have this week started Metformin Slow Release.
I am now best friends with my bathroom and I am thinking of moving in.

could anyone advise me? Should I persevere, this is my fourth day, or should I ring the Practice Nurse to see if I can change to something else?

Sorry my first post is such a subject.
thank you

Hi @Poppy&DaisysMum and welcome to the forum. Oh dear, many get bathroom problems with metformin which subside after a few days but for some the problems are particularly distressing and persist.

Absolutely ring the practice nurse and ask to change to an alternative, four days would be more than long enough for me.

Welcome to the forum @Poppy&DaisysMum and Glad that you have found us.
I hope that things settle for you with the Metformin.

I’m going to give it a week. I took it with food this morning and I had a good day. Didn’t escape completely though, was in the bathroom for a while this evening..but just once compared to six or seven times is definitely an improvement.
thanks for your reply.

Hello @Poppy&DaisysMum , welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear you’re suffering from Metformin tum , which fingers crossed seems to be settling down a bit, I hope I haven’t tempted fate there.
Yes their are other medications available if Metformin continues making your bathroom your bestest friend .
Though they work in a different way to Metfartin as it’snot so fondly called here.

An old neighbour of mine had a Shih Tzu , it was a lovely lively little thing and I am not keen on small dogs .
It used to enjoy a good old rough and tumble with my Heinz 57 Battersea dogs home special :D who was around the size of a Border Collie.

Fingers crossed it is beginning to settle for you @Poppy&DaisysMum - sounds pretty grim, well done for sticking with it so far!
