Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I seem to know nothing about my Diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type 2 many years ago and continued with it by diet only. I merrily went along with life and was badly monitored and then it suddenly went off the scales last year. I am now on Metformin and Gliclizide and have just started on Victoza. Has any one else been on Victoza, it is fairly new medication I believe. I need help with all aspects of my condition. So would love some help. Or to share information. I feel so alone with this. I have other problems with my health too so just want to help others too.
Regards
🙂

Hi bbarbilicious, welcome to the forum! 🙂 Don;t worry, you are no longer alone - there are lots of lovely, friendly people here with all manner of knowledge and experience, so whatever you need to know the chances are someone can relate.

We have a few members on Victoza, or who have been on it - how are you finding it? Are the side-effects tolerable for you? Some people are fine with it, so I hope you are one of them 🙂

As you say you are looking at this properly in all its aspects, I would suggest you approach things like someone who is newly-diagnosed - it sounds like you may not have been given good information or support in the past, so you may as well treat today as Day 1 of learning how to manage your diabetes well. To that end, I would recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - highly recommended by many of our members. These will all give you a good understanding of diabetes and perhaps introduce you to possibilities you hadn't previously been aware of. Please ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly' and you will always get an answer, whatever your concerns 🙂

Welcome bbarbilicious.

As Northerner says, there are lots of people on these boards, so at least one person, probably more, can help / share experiences of most issues of diabetes, including medication, diet, exercise / activity, work, leisure, combination with other medical conditions, physical & mental etc. And all contributions are welcome, no matter how new you are! So, just join in. 🙂

Thank you

It is good to know that there is people out there. There are many reasons for my lack of care. I am not too bad now on the Victoza and take cyclizine to combat the symptoms it brought on. Just like morning sickness and at Christmas. No dineer for me anyway. I stuck with it though even though they said reduce the dose I thought no they will put it back up and off I would have gone. Any way I wont put people off because every one is different and I am on so many pills for various things it could have been any one of them. However the drug company careline person on New Years Day bless him did give me good advice and did say there has been a link to the nausea with Metformin. That it would pass so I I keep having people say ooooooo "metformin " "I was really ill.". The thing is I got so many things wrong I don't which bit of what is causing everything. Anyway with a change of doctor and sheer brute force I am still alive today to write here. I find professional help is like getting blood out of a stone or your finger sometimes.:D

Hello Thank you I do hope so and if I waffle just let know and I will adapt accordingly 🙂

It is a shame that the quality of care can be so haphazard - excellent in some places and terrible in others, with lots of variation in between :( When I was first diagnosed I had a similar problem with the nausea, but like you I was on many different medications at the time so it was almost impossible to work out which one was causing it, or indeed if it was a combination of some of them! 🙄
