Hi, welcome to the forum🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - have you been put on any medication? I'm afraid I don't know much about Crohne's, dose it have special dietary requirements that might conflict with a diabetes-friendly diet?

Have a look at the Useful links thread for some ideas for reading to help you get to grips with things. If there is anything we can help with, please ask, nothing is considered 'silly'! 🙂

hi and welcome to the forum from me too have a good look round and remember no questions are regarded silly here ... x🙂

Hello and welcome to the forum 🙂

Hi Lizzie. Welcome 🙂

Rob

Hi LIzzie,
I too have Crohn's. I think the only time I have a problem is when I have a flare up and have to take steroids. These are known to raise blood sugars but it is the lesser of two evils really as you need something to manage the flare ups.
Although there is plenty of advice for Crohns but not a lot for a combination of the two conditions. it can be a bit daunting because when I am ill I find I have to limit my veggie intake to get some relief. Veggies are necessary to me to keep my blood sugars normal.
I don't know how long you have had it but I have been able to identify some of the culprits. These include onions and cauliflower. It may be different for you.
I do manage to keep low blood sugars mostly and it doesn't seem to impact too much on my HBA1c.
It is imperative to be able to test and I know that some people are denied test strips for Type 2. If your HC Team are sympathetic you may be able to get them prescribed.

Hi Lizzie,
Forgot to say that Crohn's advice is a diet containing refined carbs, the worst thing out for blood sugars. It is a balancing act to control the two and nigh impossible at times.
For anyone who does not know about Crohn's, you get no warning and can be doubly incontinent at times.
I find Imodium is my best friend for Crohn's and a meter is my best friend for Diabetes.

Welcome to the forum wasthinlizzie 🙂

Welcome Wasthinlizzie

Sorry to hear about your new diagnosis - Crohn's alone is unpleasant / difficult enough to have (and difficult to spell 🙂 ), but there is advice availble eg http://www.crohns.org.uk/ - click on Diet & Crohn's Disease tab. With 2 conditions, in both of which, diet is an important part of control, I urge you to request a referral to a specialist dietician. Advice from a dietician should be available to all with type 2 diabetes, but certainly to anyone with both T2D and Crohn's. Although, of course, there is some controversy among people with these conditions and among professionals, about exactly what to eat...
