Welcome to the forum, I would have thought your GP would have contacted you as you have had an increase in your HbA1C.
Although not disastrously high it does indicate your diet is not managing to keep your blood glucose at an acceptable level. You say you are controlling by diet but what are you doing as it seems as if your carbohydrate intake is too high for your body to tolerate.
The suggested amount of carbs per day is no more than 130g but many find they do need to go lower than that.
Have a look at this link for some ideas and a new look at your diet and you may spot where things are going wrong. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Welcome to the forum @rac50

Sorry to hear your HbA1c has been trending upwards rather than holding steady or reducing :(

Were you given any medication to help with your BG management? Have you made any changes to your diet and activity levels?

How did your diagnosis come about? Do you have anyone in your close family with diabetes?

My hb1ac was done by my renal consultant and it seems he hasn't sent them to my gp .I will look though the link you sent but I have been keeping my carbs low well under 130g but will look again .
Thank you for your reply .

Hi thanks for your reply .
My diabetes was picked up by my renal consultant as I have bartters syndrome and he was checking bloods .he told my gp but at that point it was 48 mmol .I completely changed my diet and it was stationary at 48 .I was not given any meds as my gp said I was already on a lot of meds so didn't want to add but the last 2 hb1ac levels have been a lot higher .my mum had type 2 diabetes but my dad had type 1 .I know nothing about what is a safe level hence asking do I need to see my gp to discuss if medication is needed .

Below 42mmol/mol is normal, 42-47mmolmol is at risk or prediabetes and anything over that is a diabetic diagnosis.
With a history of both Type 2 and Type 1 in your family and a sudden increase in Hba1C it might be worth considering the possibility of LADA which is a slow developing Type 1 which is more likely to be diagnosed as an adult.
Medication is often prescribed when diet is not effective at reducing blood glucose or keeping them where they need to be. If you are having less than 130g per day Total carbs not just 'sugar' then that would suggest you may need additional help. Do you need to lose weight as that can also help.

You should certainly consult your GP or specialist regarding a suitable diet for managing your blood glucose in the light of your kidney issues.
If this is an autoimmune condition that could also point to Type 1 as that is also autoimmune and they can go hand in hand.

It's inherited from one or both parents. To be honest I really wonder whether you should ask to be referred to a diabetes consultant at the same hospital at which you see your renal consultant because managing both together seems rather complex on the face of it - to me. I'm pretty sure most GPs wouldn't normally have the specialist expertise, or even have had any other patients with Bartters.

Hi spoke to my gp he has put me on metformin and referred to diabetic dietician and renal has referred to a doctor who specialises in barters in Cambridge. Thank you for your advice.

Good to hear you are getting close attention @rac50

At 48 you are just at the dividing line between being at risk of diabetes, and getting a diagnosis of diabetes, which suggests your metabolism is just beginning to struggle with the amount of carbohydrates and sugars you are eating. So hopefully some modest changes to your menu, along with the metformin will have a big impact.

My last 2 hb1ac were 56 then 61 so gp said it was time to start the metformin hopefully that will help .
