Type 2
Hi everyone,

I got diagnosed with Type 2 in November after I had a mild stroke in caused by not knowing and a blood reading of 33.4. I am insulin based and I have to inject 4 times a day and check my monitor 8 times a day. My range is only 45% at current. My one last problem is Haribos.
I hope everybody is well.

Welcome to the forum @Kyzak. You'll find lots of support and information on here so have a good look around. Ask any questions you need to, nothing is considered silly. There will always be someone who can answer or point you in the right direction to find the answer.

Hi Kyzak, welcome to the forum.

Just wondering whether you're in the UK as some of your units are different from the norm. Most things are easily translatable so do let us know so we can provide the most helpful form of support 🙂.

It's interesting that you're type 2 and put straight on insulin, do you know if this was due to existing health challenges?

Sounds as though you've been through quite a lot, including the thought of giving up Haribos! It can take a while to get your head around things but over time you'll get into a routine that works for you.

We've got loads of info on the site so do have a look around and let us know if we can help in any way.

I had assumed that insulin immediately was due to the stroke. My grandad was put on insulin for 6 months following his heart attack (previously and subsequently he was on oral medications)

How are they different?

No I can't take tablets due to Liver Problems. Although they do believe as I didn't notice the signs that my blood sugar was so high they believe that could of caused the stroke.

Are you using a fingerprick blood glucose meter or a continuous monitor like Libre @Kyzak (is the 45% your ‘time in range’)?

Have you been shown how to adjust your doses to match the food you are eating (or match the food you are eating to fit your doses)? Carb counting can be just as effective for people on T2 as T1.

The insulin system you are on should be flexible enough to allow you to eat a varied and interesting healthy diet with a few treats, but it’s probably best to save the Haribo for treating hypos 😉
