Hi everyone

My name is Sarah and I am new to this forum (or any forum for that matter - I have never done this before). I am an ambiguous Type 1/Type 2. I was originally diagnosed Type 2 when I was 21 and then had a DKA in October 2007 (not possible, so I have been told) and so they have concluded I am a bit of both. Nothing is ever simple with me.

Since my DKA, I have had loads and loads of health problems. I am not complaining, it could have been much much worse (there was the whole fiance in the family room waiting for the bad news stuff) but every day has turned into a struggle. Not least because I went from a lovely Barbie shaped size 8 to a size 20 now. This is making the walking/exhaustion problems worse. I don't suppose anyone has any tips on how to lose weight now that I am insulin dependent (Novorapid and Glargine and now Metformin). I find it hard to lose even a pound and seem to just put on weight no matter what I eat.

Any tips.

Oh and thank you for the forum - just when you think you are the only one out there!

Sarah

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum.

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum 🙂 It doesn't seem to be that unusual to get misdiagnosed, we have quite a few here who have had the same problem. I've been reading a lot lately about the GL diet as a good, healthy way of eating as a diabetic which can also help with weight loss as it should make you feel less hungry between meals and has slow-release glucose into the blood keeping levels lower. Have a look at my reviews in the Recommended Books section for some ideas. Any exercise you can manage is beneficial, so don't worry if you are not up to much at the moment - persevere and you will get there. Apart from that, do pay attention to portion size and calories.

Let us know how you get on, and please do ask if there is anything we can help you with! :D
