Hello!
I was diagnosed type 2 a few years ago and have been controlling it with pills (see my signature), I believe I'm at about maximum intake of them now. I tried Byetta for a while but packed that in due to digestion problems. Now, four days ago I've been prescribed Victoza to try and lose weight/improve sugar control which is why I've joined this website hoping to compare notes with others. It sounds promising but I feel like s*** quite frankly, was sick in the middle of dinner the first day! The specialist nurse tells me the nausea should settle down. I have zero appetite just now which seems a tad extreme to me. Anybody else further down the line with Victoza have any wisdom to share? I had today's shot at 10pm on the nurse's advice, to try and avoid the constant nausea/odd feeling I've been experiencing.
I have another health concern regarding which I need to lose a lot of weight before an operation (next spring probably) which is why I would like to persist with Victoza despite my previous experience with Byetta.

Rob.

Hi Robe and a warm welcome to the forum, i like you was on byetta but came off it for diffirent reasons then you i have been on victoza now for 3 month, found the sickness unbearable not at first but once i moved from 0.6 to 1.2 then it became awful so im now back down to the same dose as you.Give it abit of time and if you still feel you cant tolerate things go back to your GP and let them know

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum 🙂 We have members who have moved from Byetta to Victoza with some success, so hopefully they will be able to share their experiences and help you. I hope that the side effects settle down soon for you. Have you been offered any special dietary advice that might help with this, or advised on the timing of injections etc.? Some members have found that these things can help. Although I haven;t been on these particular drugs, I do know exactly how you feel about how terrible they can make you feel - hope it is a short-lived thing and you can get strong for the next challenge. 🙂

Hi Rob and welcome to the forums. I'm on Byetta at the moment and fortunitely have none of the nasty side effects. No weight loss either though. I think both Byetta and Victoza can help weight loss as they can supress the appetite, so that's probably why I don't lose weight as I have a very small appetite anyway. I hope the side effects wear off soon and that you manage to lose the weight you need for your operation. Have a look on the food and recipes section as there's some good advice on there for tasty healthy foods. Take care. XXXXX

Thanks..

Thank you Steff, Northener and Blythe Spirit for your prompt responses and encouragement!
It is very early days for me and even just this morning I feel less queasy and was able to enjoy breakfast. Taking the Victoza at night seems to be the way to go for me.
I will look into dietary advice. There is an actual Victoza help website I've registered with which has recipes but they seem at first sight to rather 'posh', no sign of bangers and mash for instance, but I'll keep looking for simple helpful non greasy food. I'll take a look at what's on this site.
I'm supposed to contact the clinic next week with a view to doubling the dose, I'll see how that goes.

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum

sorry that you are having trouble tolerating Victoza. I would suggest that when you contact your clinic you tell them of the issues you have been having and see if you can have more time getting used to your current dose before increasing it.

More thanks..

To you Margie and Old Holborn!
That sounds sensible Margie, I'll speak with the nurse on Tuesday about that as I feel just now I need more adjustment time.
I'm noticing how often I snack from boredom now that it isn't as attractive a proposition any more!
I'll check out the weight loss section n here I think.

Update on Victoza.

A week later and I've stepped up to the 1.2 dosage of Victoza. I feel much better, only mild nausea now and I'm finding my appetite is still low. For me it seems best to have the shot about 8am after a small breakfast. My sugar readings are low, 5 to 7 with dropping some Gliclazide from my pill intake.
By googling "Victoza forums" I've found a helpful American site with lots of people posting about their experiences with Victoza here.
I'll see how it goes and will probably only post more on this topic to respond if others post.

Rob. 😎
