Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello Everybody
My name is Carl Wood and I live in Macclesfield,Cheshire. I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 36 years now and I am Severly Sight Impaired thanks to Retinopathy, I also have Neuropathy so Diabetes has had a good go at me. I am on injections aqgain now after 7 years on a pump did not really improve things so I decided to go back to the injections. I take Tresiba as my basal and Novorapid for bolus. I now have the Freestyle Libre which is pretty good too.

Welcome to the forum Sylkwood. Glad that you have found us.

We have quite a few on here who are using MDI instead of pumps, and pumpers will have had some time in Injections. Has the Libre helped you to change anything in your management? For me it was a game changer. It helped me to work out appropriate timing for Bolus Injections before meals, altering the time according to my level and which meal it is. It is great in helping me to head of highs and lows, and has made it possible for me to improve my time in range, as well as my HbA1c.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Hi @Sylkwood and welcome to the forum 🙂

I too am on the same insulin mix as yourself and although only been diagnosed just over 3 years had my fair share of eye issues (I was diagnosed with diabetic macular oedema less than a month into Type 1 so required numerous eye injections for that, despite good control I then required lasering to both eyes for proliferative retinopathy)

Glad to hear you have the Libre as its a fantastic life changing bit of kit
xx

Welcome to the forum @Sylkwood

Glad you have joined us, but sorry to hear diabetes has given you a bit of a rough ride over the years.

Hope your switch back to MDI is suiting you well. Not sure I would easily remember to take my basal now after years on a pump!

Hello and welcome @Sylkwood , glad you’ve joined us 🙂

Sorry you've been through the mill with complications. I’m partially sighted from the ravages of proliferative retinopathy and have Charcot foot and neuropathy . I hope you’re getting support with the challenges they bring.

Good that you have the Libre and it’s proving beneficial for you .
