Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all 🙂
I'm Laura...type 1 for 13 years and using an insulin pump for the last 5.
I don't have the best control and I am not the best diabetic. But I try.
Feeling a bit glum about diabetes at the moment. I go through spells of this. If anyone talks about diabetes (who isnt diabetic) I feel a rage inside me. This can't be normal!
I read an article not so long ago about diabetes burnout and I was really surprised at how much I old relate to the article. It was really interesting and eye opening.
Pleaseeeeeeeee tell me I'm not alone!?

😡

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum....

I guess we can all feel a little glum about D, I have days where I just wish it would go away... However, reading the stories from people on this forum I actually feel I have it pretty good.

Hey Laura,
You're definitely not alone. Diabetes is such an all consuming illness, that's it's completely normal to feel fed up about it sometimes!
I believe diabetes uk have a support line you can call, so that would definitely be worth a shot 🙂

Hi Laura, you are definitely not alone. Whilst dealing with all that we have to do to manage the condition is now a part of the new normal, there are still days when I simply ant to scream, cry, rant. So I do now and then.

I have found people on here have helped me to improve my control step by step and I have found that that has led to fewer dips in how I feel. It has taken time and I have had to remember that a lot of people on here are very motivated, so in general have better control, but I have tapped into the support that they are happy to provide and learnt loads. I know that I can simply ask, or just have. Rant.

If you want help, ask. If you want a rant, rant.

Well you aren't alone now Laura.

People who 'don't get it' are the bane of all our lives at times and of course at the moment the T2s are being blamed for all the ills of the NHS which is totally untrue of course, in fact the NHS could well be somewhat to blame for certain of the problems that T2s have but that doesn't make headline new - but it's forced on everyone by every bit of the media, so of course people are going to talk about it. The only thing I can say about it is, Oh well - it makes a change from Brexit! LOL

None of us is 'the best' diabetic either - to be that we'd need to be superhuman and none of us is that. So - you are definitely amongst friends who DO get it. Just have to try and do your best, is all. And if you know you haven't - so what? Forgive yourself. Have another go tomorrow.

Hi Laura.🙂 I can understand what you're saying 100%. I was full of anger when I was first diagnosed and in diabetic burnout mode. Luckily I found this forum and have felt understood, supported and 'normal' 🙄 ever since. It took a while...why not try Ginger Vieira's book "Dealing with Diabetes Burnout"? She's got some interesting things to say, especially about setting goals, taking baby steps and just being sympathetic towards yourself in general.

As for non-diabetics and their random comments - I was at a friends' house for dinner Sat night and before we ate they brought out olives - "you can eat those, Bloden, no carb" - and crisps - "you can't eat those tho, full of carb" - duh! My husband almost had me choking on an olive with his response: "No sh*t, Sherlock, she's only been diabetic for 8 years!" We all LOL - she was just trying to help - we're still friends!🙄🙂

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum. You are definately not alone. Ive only been diagnosed for just over 1 year and I get days of feeling down and frustrated.

Welcome. Very definitely not alone 😎
I certainly go through periods of frustration and anger, as I think does every person with diabetes who cares about their health. Non D people (especially medics😱) who think they know better than me really wind me up sometimes.
